View Full Version : Brian Setzer
ScramMan2 10-29-2009, 05:06 PM I didn't want to hijack another thread about bad vinyl.
Does this guy live up in the twin cities area like I have heard?
I'm a fan from the Stray Cats, and his solo stuff. Sure would like to see him live someday.
grillebilly 10-29-2009, 05:08 PM One of the best live shows I ever saw...he is the complete showman.
Entire family got off on his big Christmas show.
Tarl Of Gor 10-29-2009, 05:13 PM And a helluva guitar player!
botrytis 10-29-2009, 05:19 PM I think he lives in California....
ScramMan2 10-30-2009, 10:06 AM Got this from Wiki:
Setzer recently moved from Southern California to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Someone was telling me they saw him out and about up there.
I see he has his Christmas tour going again this year, stopping near me in Wausau WI of all places.

You best be going to that one...you won't regret it. TOG was correct, great guitar player, maybe the most under-rated amongst the best ones alive today.
geespot 10-30-2009, 05:02 PM Saw him at a Minnesota Wild game, usher said he had season tickets.
I have a live recording at First Ave from a few years back, wish I was there.
MB149 10-30-2009, 05:39 PM Loved the Stray Cats back in the day, but think the stuff he has done in the last ten years is killer. The big band swing was really great.

Correct, he's around here, and I've ran into him a couple of times. He'll bend your ear if you buy him a beverage.
First I ever heard of the Stray Cats, they opened for a Stones show I saw somewhere around 1982. That's a tough gig.

Just the info I was looking for. Too bad I don't get up that way very much.
davidk5 11-03-2009, 11:16 PM Love Brian , great live performer I have seen him with the Orchestra & the stray cats .
Just stay away from that Vinyl pressing of his new album ....... good songs , Crappy pressing .:sigh:
Duffinator 11-03-2009, 11:28 PM I'm a big fan of BS and have seen the Stray Cats a few times over the past three decades. I'd love to see BSO for a Christmas show. I've been checking the tour dates but nothing in the Sacramento area although a couple of shows in Nor Cal. Here's the tour dates. (http://www.briansetzer.com/tourdates.php) If you haven't seen it check out the BSO DVD Live in Japan. Not only is it a kick ass concert you can tell Brian and his band are having a lot of fun. I have a bunch of concert videos and this is my favorite. Make sure you select the DTS soundtrack.
And I highly recommend Boogie Woogie Christmas for the upcoming season.
charles64 11-10-2009, 08:19 PM Brian Setzer is a True Original! First with the Stray Cats he put his own spin on Rockabilly Music. Later,he re-invented himself with B.S.O. and brought back Swing Music. B.S.O. "Dirty Boogie" and "Vavoom!" are both Cool albums,Dirty boogie's "Jump Jive An' Wail" and "You're the Boss",a duet with Gwen Stefani, will have you tapping your feet in no time. :thmbsp:
dodog 11-11-2009, 07:04 AM I'm partial to his "return" to rockabilly.
'68 Comeback Special's "Ignition" (a side-project within the B.S.O) is killer.
"Rockabilly Riot Vol. 1: A Tribute To Sun Records" is downright amazing. When will vol. 2 come out?
Dave C 11-11-2009, 07:43 AM Good luck on getting tickets to see him in Wausau. I heard they are almost sold out and I didn't get any, several friends are going though.
ScramMan2 11-11-2009, 12:32 PM I haven't tried Dave. Thanks for the warning though.
Pstraums 11-13-2009, 01:15 PM This is one of my all time heroes, and one of the few that I`ve (unfortunately) not seen live yet... :( Hope he'll embark on a tour to scandinavia (preferably norway offcoz) :) in not too distant future... If it could be together with Slim and Lee, nothing would make me happier.. Those three ppl are magic.. I'd love to see Slim Jim play the drums and Lee rock the bass and the "Gretschmeister" rock the house live together! :)
