Hey everyone,
I'm looking to build a passive switch for multiple audio inputs as my first DIY audio (and electronics, for that matter) project. I think I found a suitable yet more complicated design that I can downsize so I at least have a schematic to organize this: ESP Project's Project 88 aka Audio Preamp (http://sound.westhost.com/project88.htm).
As background: my receiver has only one AUX input, a couple tapes and a phono input. I only use the aux but have about six audio sources. Since I don't really need the preamps or output controls (balance, volume, etc.) I was just going to omit those and build the thing without power. I would like to add the rest of the preamp components as I need them
However, I need to make this with girlfriend-approving aesthetics so I need help finding a suitable enclosure. I need it to be big enough so that I can later expand this to the full Preamp Project (including phono preamp, ESP's PCBs, etc.).
Does anyone have an enclosure they prefer? Something about 12 L, 8 D, 2-3 H? I can't find decent catalog images in Digikey and the like.
Also, anyone have any tips for this? I know terribly little about electronics and even less about audio electronics, but understand the basic concepts. Is there a basic electronics book anyone can tell me to check out at the library?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
