Right now on Austin City Limits. I love these guys. I feel a purchase coming on.

Speaking of ACL, where are Dave918's reminders. He used to be johnny-on-the-spot with his ACL lineups and reminders. :scratch2:

If you aren't familiar with Robert Randolph & the Family Band, then run, don't walk, to the record store and treat yourself. If I was wealthy like tentoze, I'd even offer his money back guarantee.

Not heard any of him , JD, but I'll put it on the never-ending list, based on yr excellent tastes.

And, if I was a young man with yr money, I'd set mine on fire.

Wow, I haven't watched ACL in a month of Sunday's. Guess I was further out of it than I realized. :worried:

toze,

Imagine a litle blues, soul, rock, funk, and jam, with a little church choir thrown in for good measure once in a while, and you've got Robert Randolph and the Family Band. I can hear influences from Blind Willie McTell, to The Allman Bros., to Ray Charles. They regularly tour with Eric Clapton and Dave Matthews. I think it's a bunch of brothers/cousins.

Last night's concert was cool - Robert invited three old guys (70 years old or thereabouts) who have played instruments in his church all their lives. These guys helped teach him how to play the guitar, harp and a host of other instruments. He brought them on stage at ACL. Pretty cool to bring your unknown mentors on a nat'l stage. And they flat out jammed.

At one time, in addition to the usual guitars, bass, drums, keyboards etc., they had three different lap steel slide guitars, and a lap pedal guitar. That was music to these ears.

Check out their 1st lp "Live at the Wetlands".

If that first track, "Ted's Jam (??)", doesn't have you up and moving, call 911 cuz you're dead! :thmbsp:

Amen Andy!!

I highly recommend Robert Randolph & the Family Band :thmbsp: . Their follow-up album to "Live at the Wetlands" is "Unclassified". It has more vocals but still can make you move. If you like these check out "The Word" (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005M98F/qid=1099179454/sr=8-2/ref=pd_csp_2/102-1352945-9953706?v=glance&s=music&n=507846) . It is a gospel jam album that showcases Randolph's talent on the pedal steel.

BTW, if you ever get a chance to see them live, go for it!! I have seen them twice and they were great both times.
