Has any one ever seen the wired remote for one of these decks. Are they good tape decks?:music:

These were pretty decent-sounding decks. The Laser Amorphous head is a nice touch.

Sony had two remote control schemes for decks.

I can't remember which remote connector these have. If it's the 4-pin (older), it works via either the receiver's dedicated 4-pin remote connection or a stand-alone IR remote you could buy (I have one of these, somewhere). I don't remember there being a wired remote.

If this deck has the header-type connection (newer), then it only can be controlled remotely via a compatible receiver.

There is a four pin plug port just below the eject button marked remote. I will try to get some pics up soon

I think it used the same wired remote as the TC-K81 (the rm-50)

it's a pretty good deck from the early 80

Yup, that's the four-pin connector.

Do you know where I can get one?

Get one? They come attached to Sony receivers of that era. Or you could try eBay for a 4-pin wired controller.

I'm not sellin' my standalone wireless. :D

The wired RM-50 will fork with that deck however, you will not be able to change tape direction. The one you want is the RM-70 which is even more rare as this one has the forward and reverse play transport functions. Unless you're a collector I would not lose too much sleep over finding one.

I ended up with an RM-50 because it happened to be in the box with a sony cassette deck I purchased from that auction site. There's one on there now but they're asking $300 for it.

Pacific Stereo - What is the model number of the stand alone ir remote setup that you have? I have a stand alone system remote setup (RM-S5) that's pretty rare as well.

I have an RM-80, which won't do the reverse play function.

What is interesting about this deck it has separate rotating recording/playback and non rotating erasing heads. So it can record on one side only but play on both with autoreverse.
If you need a copy of operating manual I have one. Just drop me a PM.

It would not make any sense to have rotating eraseheads :)

in one of my decks (that's in the pile of not used junk) there is a Technics RS373 - one of them dual decks - the left deck is playback only, the right is record AND play - in autoreverse .. just opended if for this picture - and discovered the deck actually works. did not think it did, bought it from a guy that never used it..... looks that way too, i haven't cleaned anything

The erase heads are very small !

Most auto reverse tape decks have an erase head right next to the REC/PB head. This allows for recording in both directions with one head. That head in your photo looks suspiciously like it incorporates an erase head to me.

Those other parts look like optical sensors for reverse activation. If you look at the underside of the post over the sensor on the left, you will see it is reflective.

I'm not sure why there is one on the right, since it does not have the corresponding reflective post.

Vtold, are you sure the 500 won't record in reverse? I sure don't remember that.

have to give you credit for better eyes than me :)

those two "erase head" are apparently just tapeguides, when magnifying the pic - one can se they just are part of the housing for the rotating heads
