Well I think I have...
I have been wanting to find a tube kit pre amp and phono stage. There sure is a chit load of product out there and with it comes 10 differant opinions ya know? It's not like I can audition much of it either. To hear the subtle differances. To know passive compared to active.
So I guees I have to just use what common sense tells me and what I know about it all to decide. Like when I bought my speakers in kit form. I knew the things that I wanted in them...Very dead cabinet, ribbon tweets, high efficency etc. and purchased based on that knowledge. I never auditioned them but I was thrilled with my choice and the resulting sound.
These kits came accross my desktop a while back but for some reason I didin't stop on them. Why!? They are just what I want. Chatting in the room the other day, Tim M from here, suggested this company http://hollowstate.netfirms.com/ This equipment is very well priced and fits my needs perfectly. Exposed tube look, point to point wiring and killer pricing. I won't do the red finish of course but may opt for some kind of trick finish done here locally.
Anyway, sent a letter off to Lloyd and asked a few questions about his stuff. This Octal 6 and 4m phono pre combined with a phono separate power supply should give me that complete tube sound that I am looking for....Is that what I am looking for?!!
I hope so. I was very happy with an addition of tubes to the amplifying process compared to solid state. It's my logic that I also will be happy with tubes in my pre amp stage. Hmmmm maybe a hybrid though....UGGGHHHHH this is driving me nuts!!!
