Just picked up 15 RCA Red Seal albums in mint condition for the princely sum of $2.99 per ($44.85). Ten are double LPs and the other 5 are triples. All are operas by Strauss, Wagner, Verdi, Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti & Puccini. What a score. Will drive my significant other nuts. She hates opera (poor thing has a tin ear). Oh, well. Many, many late nights of wonderful listening. Good thing I have my own listening room.

You didn't tell where and how you got these treasures. If you have the time, list the titles so we can all drool, My significant other would get along with yours as well. Enjoy the listening!!!

Was off of eBay. Couldn't believe my luck. I spotted the day they were listed by one seller and offered to buy at $6, each, before he got any bids. He said that he preferred to let the auctions run their course. So I got them all for $2.99, each, as there were no other bidders. Shipped to me for $70, total. Could not have done so well if I bought them new back in 1965, or so.
Got the following:
Strauss, Eie Flaedermaus
Strauss, Salome and Elektra
Wagner, Flying Dutchman
Wagner, Die Walkure
Wagner, Die Meistersinger
Verdi, La Traviata
Verdi, Falstaff
Verdi, Otello
Mozart, Don Giovanni
Rossini, La Scala Di Seta
Rossini, Barber of Seville
Barber, Vanessa
Donizetti, Lucia Di Lammermoor
Puccini, Turandot
Puccini, La Boheme

What makes "Red Seal" albums so cool, GP?

RCA did a considerably better job of quality control throughout the process on their signature "Red Seal" albums. Was their TOTL LP. And, they did a good job. Generally paid higher level of attention to the details all the way from the original recording to the mastering to the actual LP pressing. Too bad 180g vinyl was not around back then. But, the original in good shape is a real listening treat.
If I recall, many new CDs are advertising that they are made from the 'Red Seal' master tapes and asking premiums for same. Don't know who owns the original RCA music library, but it must be huge.

BMG is the "owner" in question and that is the last American owned major. All of our "major" record companies are now in foreign hands.

BMG = Bertlesmann Music Group. Bertlesmann is a German company; Warner Music Group is the only remaining American-owned major IIRC -- Foe

All this talk about good vinyl has convinced me to put on Donizetti's "Lucia Di Lammermoor". Happy Listening!!
