Has anyone out there had experience with the new 7027A's and 7868 sovtek tubes? Wondering if the quality is there or should I consider finding some NOS tubes? Thanks in advance.

DanTana 11-04-2004, 08:01 PM I think Electro Harmonix makes 7868's also, the quality is possibly better than the Sovtek's. I've seen them for $37.00 a matched quad on Ebay NIB. macaltec 11-04-2004, 08:10 PM How are they compared to the NOS stuff out there? mhardy6647 11-04-2004, 09:00 PM The EH 7868's are getting very good press at AA. I just bought a matched quad from Uncle Ned for a Fisher 400 I am endeavoring to restore. All I can say about 'em so far is that they look nice :-) We'll see how they sound once I get the bias supply spruced up. macaltec 11-04-2004, 09:18 PM I've got a 400 in the same shape. Minus the new tubes. mageworlder 11-10-2004, 04:43 PM A guitar player I know has had good luck with Russian Sovtek 6L6s and 12AX7s in his Fender amp. He bought them to replace the degrading stock Chinese Groove Tubes, and the sound is noticeably better. I'm not sure about the rest of Sovtek's lineup, but I would imagine that they would be quite good, as they are presumably made in the same factory by the same people and machines. Celt 11-10-2004, 04:59 PM Electro Harmonix are made by Sovtek. Granted some EH models (not all) have different designs from their Sovtek brothers. |
