in a hotel room in Las Vegas (they all die there don't they?) ...

Not confirmed yet, but heart-attack likely cause.

All the rock-gods are falling one by one aren't they :(

All he has to do is find Keith Richards enbalmer. Keith has been dead for years, but he's still walking around.

Oh man that sucks! The Who is one of my favorite bands. Just won the Tommy LP off of E bay recently.

Yup, all them kids from the "hippie" days are gettin old and passing on. Not suprised though. Some of those folks lived in the very fast lane during their time. Made em old before their years.

John Entwhistle was probably the greatest bass player thats ever lived. Just listen to Quadrophenia if you don't believe me, (That's a Who Album Thor), especially Dr. Jimmy. Amazing bass playing. He will be missed dearly.

mOOn what about "The Real Me " amazing; with Keith Moon and Townshead all over the place John in my opinion keep the bands' music focused he was the foundation.I'm going to play The Who a lot this weekend loved this band since the mid 60's.

The Who were the second concert I ever attended. It was shortly after Tommy came out. The arena was so full of...er..smoke that we got high without even trying. What a memory.

Losing Keith Moon was devastating, losing John may mean the end of The Who. How could they possibly recover.

The Who was a great band! I grew up mostly with Zeppelin, though. My uncle and I had just scraped up the cash to get concert tickets when we got the news about John Bonham. That was to be my first concert (It was 1980 and I had just turned 15.) There was a fist-sized hole in my bedroom wall beside my left speaker for years in memory of that day. The wall didn't get fixed until I went off to college.

I still can't believe that two members of the Beatles didn't make it to 64. Tragic.

Even KISS (my all-time favorite band) has lost a member. Eric Carr (their second drummer) died of cancer in the early 90s.

mOOn don't be too hard on Thor as my dad use to say "It's unforunate that youth is wasted on the young":D

One day when all the guys get together we will sit Thor down and introduce him to "Live At Leeds" crank up, then the lad will see the error of his ways. ;)

Moonie listen to some primus and listen to that guy play the bass like a funky animal, only band I know of where the bass is the main istrument and everyone else backs him up. I have heard the who and the bass playing doesn't stand out to me as anything special. Yes primus' music is whacky but that guy can lay down some awesome bass grooves.

06-30-2002, 09:04 PM
I've heard enough of Primus Thor to know I don't care to hear them again. It all sounds the same to me, but if you think he's the sh*t... Groove away buddy.

Gee Thor - Basicallyall I was saying is If you like him... More power to ya. Just not my bag. (period.)

If you think that was pissy big fellow, maybe you should re-read some of the crap you post here. You've been known to be pretty downright blunt yourself.

That might be a wee bit of an overstatement there. I can name a few others off the top of my head that might come in ahead of Entwhistle...not in any order of who I think is the best though...

1. Chris Squire~ YES
2. Les Claypool~ Primus
3. Tony Levin~ King Crimson
4. Geddy Lee~ Rush
5. Roger Waters~ Pink Floyd
6. Paul McCartney~ Beatles
7. John Paul Jones~ Zeppelin
8. Justin Chancellor~ TOOL
9. Phil Lesh~ Grateful Dead
10. Kim Gordon~ Sonic Youth

Oh yeah...and...Lemmy~ Motorhead!

Bass players, all.

Professional, all.

No point arguing statistics...but John was the only player that got the universal "how the HELL does he do THAT!?!" when the fingers flew.

I saw The Who, John et al, twice. Magic!

I'd hate to have to say who/ who's (no pun!) was the best base-player - or even a randomized top ten, for that matter :)

The 'one-liners' that we used to have, included: "It was all over, come Woodstock! - and if you remember before that, you just weren't there":banana::banana:

That being said, this guy deserves some kind of mention. Some will disagree - and all that jazz (pun intended :D ) - that's what we're here for:

He plays a bit more on this one:

Man ,,, alot of great musicians have passed in the last sevral weeks .
Buddy Miles , who else :scratch2: ?
Think of the SUPER GROUP on the other side . He/they are in Great Company .
As far as Keith Richards,,, I think you should be looking in the Pharmacy listings !
But hey, there's alot hittin' and passin' 60 now . Lots of Drugs ,Alcohol , Formaldahyde . It takes it's toll as some here might attest to . These people have given and taken so much over the past 40+ years or so . It's a "Tough Bunch" the ones still standing . I mean hell , Ya seen Jimmy Paige ?
Somebody here mentioned seeing Johnny Winter a year or so ago

Oh , another loss ;
Jeff Healey , what 41 ?
I've just recently (3 years or so) gotten into Johnny Winter . The man is an Icon for "Hard Hittin' Blues" beyond any doubt .
Could you imagine him and Janis on stage together ? Those two "Whiskey Voices" would be staggering to the mind . Talk about some Wailin' goin down . Gives me shivers just thinking of the prospect .
I wonder if they ever did perform together ?
