View Full Version : Nooooo ... Who's John Entwistle found dead ...
in a hotel room in Las Vegas (they all die there don't they?) ...
Not confirmed yet, but heart-attack likely cause.
All the rock-gods are falling one by one aren't they :(
Bass player, The Who ...
You must have heard of them ... tell me you've heard of them!! Please!
grumpy 06-27-2002, 10:37 PM Man That sucks I dug the hell outta the who ! soon all we will have left is Mick Jagger........Now theres a scary thought
Wardsweb 06-27-2002, 10:41 PM All he has to do is find Keith Richards enbalmer. Keith has been dead for years, but he's still walking around.
grumpy 06-27-2002, 11:00 PM Well thats easy. Just look up Jack Daniels in the phone book:D
WildWest 06-27-2002, 11:24 PM Oh man that sucks! The Who is one of my favorite bands. Just won the Tommy LP off of E bay recently.
Yup, all them kids from the "hippie" days are gettin old and passing on. Not suprised though. Some of those folks lived in the very fast lane during their time. Made em old before their years.
ckelly 06-28-2002, 01:42 AM :(
Of course I knew who the Who is, its just you don't know the bassist on most bands.
Of course I knew you knew ... :)
Eat your cornflakes and have your first coffee then we'll talk :D
grumpy 06-28-2002, 08:50 AM Its coco pebbles and beer topped with an omelet:p:
Oh yeah gonna be some beer tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
moondog 06-28-2002, 11:39 PM John Entwhistle was probably the greatest bass player thats ever lived. Just listen to Quadrophenia if you don't believe me, (That's a Who Album Thor), especially Dr. Jimmy. Amazing bass playing. He will be missed dearly.
mOOn
bigmacc 06-29-2002, 07:49 AM mOOn what about "The Real Me " amazing; with Keith Moon and Townshead all over the place John in my opinion keep the bands' music focused he was the foundation.I'm going to play The Who a lot this weekend loved this band since the mid 60's.
moondog 06-29-2002, 12:44 PM Yea Mac - That was actually the song I meant! I realized that after I posted. Good call. ;)
mOOn
ps... Infinitys boxed tomorrow.
George R 06-29-2002, 02:09 PM The Who were the second concert I ever attended. It was shortly after Tommy came out. The arena was so full of...er..smoke that we got high without even trying. What a memory.
Losing Keith Moon was devastating, losing John may mean the end of The Who. How could they possibly recover.
George
Best bass player ever is the guy from Primus ;)
moondog 06-30-2002, 04:17 AM Thor - Now you're asking for a SERIOUS asswhoopin!!!
Maybe the biggest DORK musician ever!
:puke::puke::puke: :puke::puke::puke:
Now go to your room & think about what you just said Young-Un!
jshorva65 06-30-2002, 06:57 AM The Who was a great band! I grew up mostly with Zeppelin, though. My uncle and I had just scraped up the cash to get concert tickets when we got the news about John Bonham. That was to be my first concert (It was 1980 and I had just turned 15.) There was a fist-sized hole in my bedroom wall beside my left speaker for years in memory of that day. The wall didn't get fixed until I went off to college.
I still can't believe that two members of the Beatles didn't make it to 64. Tragic.
Even KISS (my all-time favorite band) has lost a member. Eric Carr (their second drummer) died of cancer in the early 90s.
John
No way moonie for pure bass playing no one can touch that guy from Primus.
bigmacc 06-30-2002, 09:45 AM mOOn don't be too hard on Thor as my dad use to say "It's unforunate that youth is wasted on the young":D
One day when all the guys get together we will sit Thor down and introduce him to "Live At Leeds" crank up, then the lad will see the error of his ways. ;)
moondog 06-30-2002, 09:59 AM Yea... You may be right Macc, but I still say the lad is in need of a serious asswhooping! :boxing:
Moonie listen to some primus and listen to that guy play the bass like a funky animal, only band I know of where the bass is the main istrument and everyone else backs him up. I have heard the who and the bass playing doesn't stand out to me as anything special. Yes primus' music is whacky but that guy can lay down some awesome bass grooves.
moondog 06-30-2002, 09:04 PM I've heard enough of Primus Thor to know I don't care to hear them again. It all sounds the same to me, but if you think he's the sh*t... Groove away buddy.
I rarely listen to them but can appreciate his talent. No reason to get all pissy ;) I was only trying to make you see the light :D
moondog 06-30-2002, 11:01 PM Gee Thor - Basicallyall I was saying is If you like him... More power to ya. Just not my bag. (period.)
If you think that was pissy big fellow, maybe you should re-read some of the crap you post here. You've been known to be pretty downright blunt yourself.
In the words of the Italians... Forget about it.
ckelly 07-01-2002, 12:51 AM Hey guys, please cool it...
or else I'll be forced to conficate thor's CV's and moon's 9090...
Chris
(moderator General Board)
moondog 07-01-2002, 04:11 AM No problem Mister Moderator Mon... We Be Chillin'...
I am only blunt when defending my precious CV's :D So take that :uzi: Moonie ;)
moondog 07-01-2002, 05:11 PM Ah Thor... You're killing me here! :p:
timofred 03-06-2008, 06:53 PM Gee whiz, This looks like the fight you DON'T want to see at a funeral.

I'm sure you left out Terry "Geezer" Butler by accident. And, let's not forget about Flea, with the Chili Peppers.
Clmrt 03-06-2008, 09:23 PM Bass players, all.
Professional, all.
No point arguing statistics...but John was the only player that got the universal "how the HELL does he do THAT!?!" when the fingers flew.
stuwee 03-06-2008, 09:27 PM Moonie listen to some primus and listen to that guy play the bass like a funky animal, only band I know of where the bass is the main istrument and everyone else backs him up. oldgringo 03-10-2008, 04:57 PM I saw The Who, John et al, twice. Magic!
I'd hate to have to say who/ who's (no pun!) was the best base-player - or even a randomized top ten, for that matter :)
The 'one-liners' that we used to have, included: "It was all over, come Woodstock! - and if you remember before that, you just weren't there":banana::banana:
That being said, this guy deserves some kind of mention. Some will disagree - and all that jazz (pun intended :D ) - that's what we're here for:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuCajiXZCFg&feature=related
He plays a bit more on this one:

i think this thread and John should be allowed to rest in peace, any comparisons and opinions concerning his abilities should more properly be debated elsewhere, another more relevent thread perhaps just my .02
slow_jazz 03-11-2008, 03:36 PM It is hard to believe it's been that long. I saw the Who 3 times with John on bass. Just a great band with a great bass player. Can't say who's best but he was up there...
mhardy6647 03-11-2008, 03:42 PM Next you guys'll be telling me that something's happened to Keith Moon...

Sportlark64 03-12-2008, 12:38 AM Man ,,, alot of great musicians have passed in the last sevral weeks .
Buddy Miles , who else :scratch2: ?
Think of the SUPER GROUP on the other side . He/they are in Great Company .
As far as Keith Richards,,, I think you should be looking in the Pharmacy listings !
But hey, there's alot hittin' and passin' 60 now . Lots of Drugs ,Alcohol , Formaldahyde . It takes it's toll as some here might attest to . These people have given and taken so much over the past 40+ years or so . It's a "Tough Bunch" the ones still standing . I mean hell , Ya seen Jimmy Paige ?
Somebody here mentioned seeing Johnny Winter a year or so ago
looking like Hammered $h!te . More are gonna go .

dread31 03-12-2008, 01:45 AM That sucks!

Oh , another loss ;
Jeff Healey , what 41 ?
I've just recently (3 years or so) gotten into Johnny Winter . The man is an Icon for "Hard Hittin' Blues" beyond any doubt .
Could you imagine him and Janis on stage together ? Those two "Whiskey Voices" would be staggering to the mind . Talk about some Wailin' goin down . Gives me shivers just thinking of the prospect .
I wonder if they ever did perform together ?
