I recently saw a great concert with Dr. John & The Lower 911, Charlie Musselwhite and singer Shemekia Copeland. Thought I'd give you folks a *heads up* if they passed your way to be sure and go see them. They were at the local university and played their hearts out. Dr. John did several of his old songs as well as some new ones. Shemekia Copeland did several with Dr. John from her new album that Dr. John produced, that was a melding of blues, rock and just a bit of creole thrown in for good measure. She was charming and funny as she talked to the audience between songs and let me tell you, she's got a set of lungs on her that won't quit! Dr. John spent the night straddled on his piano bench between a grand piano and a Hammond B3, playing...singing...and demanding the crowd to get up and start shakin' their asses. After a short intermission, Charlie Musselwhite came out and played a few electric blues songs on his Gibson guitar and harmonica, at first solo and then with Dr. John...then the band joined in and soon Shemekia came back out and all three of them played and sang together. If they come your way, GO! You won't regret it. Had to be one of the best concerts I've ever attended.

Sounds like a great time Celt. I really enjoyed seeing Musselwhite earlier this year but Dr. John is one who I've not seen. yet. Shemekia Copeland is new to me.

Well now I'm jealous.
But I just found out BB King is coming to Birmingham on Dec. 28th. Can you say Christmas present?

Absolutely Right - saw Dr John, et all last night. What a great concert, even came back for an encore. The show was titled "Celebration of the Blues". Get this......I went with a group - took a bit of a bus trip. The average age on the bus was 70+, they all thought they were going to see a play. I think I was the only one that knew where we were going. I could have told them before we got on the bus, but no, I had to wait until we were on our way. Boy they were surprised - but enjoyed it. I could see their eyes open when the lead guitarist had longer hair than most of the women. Anyway, a great concert - if they come in your area - don't miss it.

Be sure to go JD! Have had the pleasure of seeing him at his club on Beale Street in Memphis. You'll be seeing a living legend. :thmbsp:

Have seen Shmekia a few times myself. Got tickets for the 21st of Nov show at the Ramshead in Annapolis, MD. To say she has a set of lungs is an understatement!
