I need to replace the power transistors on my mixing board. It uses four TIP142 and four TIP147. I couldn't find a local source with them in stock. Abel is out of stock in one of 'em and K40 seems to have packed up and moved away  so looks like I gotta bite the bullet and pay for shipping :dammit:

MCM has two direct matches for each part number, one of which is listed as the wrong electronic package type and the other has very little info online, other than it is made by Freescale and costs $2.58

NTE crosses these to NTE 270 and NTE271 which seem to sell for close to seven bucks. Through MCM.

Could these really be equivalent devices and priced so differently? Is there ANY earthly reason for me to get the NTE devices?

These are still active devices there's no need to use NTE. Only use NTE
when there isnt one original left on the planet.

You can get them here.
TIP142
http://www.mouser.com/index.cfm?handler=displayproduct&lstdispproductid=237335&e_categoryid=238&e_pcodeid=51100

TIP147

BTW If these are blown be sure to check all the other transistors in the
general vicinity. Also check for any open resistors or shorted caps. If
you miss anything your new ones could end up going in smoke also.

I will attach a datasheet so you can be sure these match the ones you have.
