Hi Glen,

The sansui site is down but the sansui forum run by the same guy is still working. I haven't been buyin gmuch myself, well maybe a turntable. :) I did have the GX-5 rack arrive after a long wait and have all the main pieces mounted now.

AFAIK the AG tannenbaum site is still being recommended for manuals. You've got the AU-9900? that's very cool! Where did you find it?

cheers
Jack

Hi there Jack..

I think you messaged me ages ago? You have the AU7900 and the SX1280? Am I correct..hehe

Yes the AU-9900 is a nice peice I must admit, like a giant version of the AU-7900. I bought the amp orginally of a bloke I know who went over to Aussie and found it in a local second hand shop- not sure which area.. about 5 years ago..

I bought it off him when he changed his system as he does this regulary, also the same guy I got my first SX1280 off..hehe.. I owned the AU9900 till about this time last year funnily enough and then needed some $$$ so I then 'foolishy' sold it and got a very good price for it too ;) as they aren't all that common. Actually regretted it afterwards... :( as we do... and then it 'came' back to me for a second time! Bought it once again of a used hifi dealer who knew I used to own a AU9900 and rang me to ask whether it was my old amp he had.. Us hifi nuts are in a close circle here, so I ended up buying it back for virtually the same amount I paid for it originally in the first place! :D

Its not often things you sell come back..hehe ;) And I will not be selling it again either, I learn't from that mistake.

Cheers
Glen

Hi Glen,

Good story about the AU9900! I did have the AU-7900 and sold it to Walt but he knows I'm happy to buy it back anytime! :)

My main system has the AU919 and KEF 104ab which I think you also have. The other sansui amps/receivers I have are the AU555a, Au217II and G3500. I was going to post a pic of the GX5 setup in the gallery for Beatlefred but what the heck, here it is (hope BF sees this) :

Hi Jack:

Nice photo! Perhaps you told me before but I didnt realize you had a Sansui timer too- they are ncie as well- I have a small AT15 in black and an AT-202 in silver. And a cass deck as well- is that an SC-3330 or 5330? I have the 3330 but just not much time to use it yet- I think might need some adjustments, the speed is off and its a little noisy on FF & RW.

mOOn & Chris in the post below (Best receivers) asked to see a photo of my system. I mentioned I emailed you a photo. If you deleted it, thats ok, but if you might still have it to post on here for them, thats ok by me.

I'd like to rearrange some things down here in the basement to make some more room, I'm trying to ponder the possibilities now, but I dont know if there's much I can do for the time being- just to much stuff, sigh.....:)

Regards, B/F.

Hi ya Fred!

The tape deck is actually a SC-1330 that works fine but not that it sees much action. :) I've got the AT202 as well (is that a coincidence?) and would say the build quality on the AT15 is much better.

Nope, I haven't deleted the pic you sent, so here it is!

Err, hope Glen doesn't mind what we are doing to his thread;)

cheers
Jack

Thanks Jack!

Yep - that photo sure does look familiar:) And that was taken when the AU-X1's were in the shop- thats why not in the photo in case anyone is wondering. A whole bunch of other stuff is located outside of the pic on the right side along the other wall. The computer where I am now is out of the pic on the left side. To keep dust off, the Ren 90 speakers are covered- I shot the photo so fast I didnt think to take the covers off.

The couch where I sit to listen is up closer than I'd like it to be, but cant move it back futher-as a drywall that encloses the basement heater blocks movement furhter back and also a bookshelf so I have to do make-do pretty much with the way it is for now.

Sincerely, B/F.

Thanks Chris:

But believe me, it can be much better than it is. The basement was improved a little bit about 7 years ago- though not fully finished as that would have been too expensive- but that was before I acquired all the hi fi equipment, so its a little difficult here now, spacewise. I have to make do with things like those dumb tv carts to hold the amps because I dont like stacking amps on top of each other due to the heat they give off. So there's only so much I can place horizontally along the desk. When the basement was worked on, a dropped ceiling was put in- the ceiling was low to begin it, lets put it this way, at 5'9" I have no problems but when big brother at 6'3" comes over- his head just barely clears the ceiling. If I can think of a place to move that bookcase, I'd do it and thats when I'll need my bro's help to move it with me once I empty out all the books from it. I know- you feel my pain:)

Sincerely, B/F.

Fred

I meant it's a hell of a room in the sense that it looks like a great place to have a cold one playing the AU20000 with the Ren90's listening to some pink floyd. I also like the fact that it's an organized chaos - that means you actually use the room and enjoy the systems more than worry about the way the room looks.

If you are good with tools, check out Wardweb's original "The Rack" They are easy to build, look good and can take a ton of weight.

Hi Chris:

Well, it rained all weekend long here in "Noo Yawk" - I tried to spend some time rearranging things- alot of effort but to no avail really as I wasnt successful. I simply need a larger room. Or two spacious rooms. The keyword here being....-> spacious. Unfortunately, spacious and $$$ go hand in hand. Just getting to the cd's is a task- having to reach up and over the hi fi gear on the desk without knocking anything over, not to mention trying to keep things neat when every single iece of hi fi gear has an ac line cord and multiply that by all the gear, it turns out to be alot of darn wires all over the place. And as I said, thats just one part of the picture- lots more stuff outside of the pic along the other wall.

Well, atleast I think I'll get started on creating my CD Collection database using the program at www.base40.com - Whats good with that pgm is you only have to insert the cd's in the drive and the pgm automtically processes the d-base for you, no data entry typing necessary unless you want to manually add information.

Oh, and Chris? You do feel my "pain" dont you? Woe is me "suffering" from a deluge of audio equipment :) Thats where the beer comes in - to ease the "suffering". I'll drink to that!

Cheers, B/F.

I can help you ease your pain: Ship the AU 20000 and the 9090db and 600 CD's of your choice to me here in Chile, and I'll send you a bottle of beer :D:D:D:D:D

Well, thats-a mighty tempting offer 'thar', Christopher, if you can atleast pay the shipping fee, I might consider it- to ease the "pain" of course. According to my calculations, that fee would be $10,290 :)

I dunno if there's any bottle of beer in the world thats worth that much (unless I was stranded in the Sahara and a lil' thirsty) though there probably is a bottle of vintage wine out thar somewhere with that pricetag, my inebriated friend. The keyword here being... Vintage.

Peace & Love, B/F. :)

That's pretty dang close... to ship a 60 lb component costs around 300 IIRC :gigglemad:

Why is shipping so damn expensive?
