I've purchased a few DTS-encoded 5.1 CDs. I find, in general, that resolution appears superior to normal CDs. I have not compared the DTS disks with the newer, high resolution (super) CD format. I have found, however, that some of the disks (Lyle Lovett, Junior Wells, Dave Brubeck) are quite well mixed. I system uses a Cary P7 home theater preamp, which handles the decoding.
Anyone else with DTS listening experience?
Thanks.
The only one I have is "The Who - Live at Albert Hall". I do not own a SACD-P, so it's pretty much impossible for me to comment on the relative strengths of each format in comparison to the other.
I like DTS - I listen to it in 2-ch mode and I find the spatial separation to be excellent, but as a format, DTS doesn't appear to be regarded as the "next big thing" in audio ...

Thanks for your reply. I agree that DTS does not seem to have caught on as an audiophile format. Seems a pity, given that the format appears to have a higher resolution that normal CDs and that any home theater decoder with DTS can be used with existing CD players that have digital output. In other words, the format appears to make high resolution something we can afford without purchasing a specialized player. Of course, I cannot comment on the relative merits of SACD and DTS. I do find, however, that the "shell" that sometimes seems to envelope normal CDs (a shell that prevents a certain realism) seems absent when listening to some DTS disks.
