I gave my dad a complete newer sony system ( nothing super special ) so he gave me this receiver.

Well I am trying to figure out this tape monitor thing. When I flip either tape switch i cant hear anything from the speakers.

Also How would I listen to a tape? I am wanting to have a cassette in computer out on one.

And a Reel to Reel in on the other.

Thanks for the help

Welcome to AK. The tape monitors are to switch your tape sources, you have to hook up the cassette out to the tape in/play of the SX-650 and the tape out/Rec of the SX-650 to the cassette tape in. same go's for the R2R one set on tape 1 the other on tape 2 of the SX-650 Hope this helped.

So would I be able to hook my computer in the tape B in and out and use it as if it was a tape deck?

What if I want to record radio, CD or Vinyl I can?

thanks for the info.

Im working now on getting my computer/eletronics work bench/ office set up with the receiver and I will be transfering vinyl to CD.

Yes, you most certainly can record any source through your 650 onto tape. You can use the "tape monitors" for several purposes, such as hooking up an EQ or as output to a recording device(either a r to r, computer, or cassette deck). You can also use the "Aux" input to play your computer's output through your receiver. These old receivers are extremely versatile.

I think im going to set up one tape monitor just for R to R but the othr one will go out to the computer so that I can record vinyl to CD.

Thanks for the help. Its all coming together now.

your AM/FM is also a source which you can record. So when listening put tape mon. to to source and record on tape.
