I have heard people say "stick with 5.1, 6.1 doesnt add much" going by my system 6.1 is extremely better, it might help that the new centre has a better power handling and it is much clearer, but I have been watching the new top gun release that has dts 6.1 and it sounds awsome, so much was missing in the back on 5.1. Like a whistling wind noise and talking from behind etc... I really like it.

Family guy does rock :D

I am one of the few who also agree 6.1 is better than 5.1 I feel the rear center adds a lot to the "surround" experience ;)

Movies that have Discrete 6.1 DTS ES tracks rock!!!

I picked up the Top gun dvd at costco for $12.99 canadian, its a 2 disk set as well, if you like 6.1 you should pick it up. probably the best bang for buck dvd i have bought. Even though it was made in 1986 it can compete with most of the new ones in most areas. It smokes the average dvd sound quality anyways.

Is that a Technics RS-M205 cassette deck I see in the right corner of the second picture? I have one of them. :D The only deck I own that I like more than that is my JVC. Nice rig!

yes it is very nice eye to see that lol. It isnt being used so i actually just took it out. Its less cluttered and it was the only silver piece so it didnt look to great. Its either dvd, cd, or LP in the basement. I never got into cassette's

While the film was shot in 1986, the 2 disk DVD is a recent
(released December 14 2004) remaster with DTS Discrete 6.1 sound and anamorphic video in the correct aspect ratio, so it should look good.

Speaking of Cruise movies anyone tried watching the DVD Day's Of Thunder on their HDTV yet? Man it looks like ass! Still the worst transfer I have seen on DVD, practically unwatchable on my HDTV. Still sounds awesome tho but it could also sound better too ;)
