Well, our Mac4200 friend has returned....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14992&item=5742765712&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Importantly, he says the following...

This McIntosh 4200 Receiver is Like New and Performs Exactly the Same as All Brand New Tuner Equipment Units of this Mfr - However - "None Equal Broadcast Sound" - [It has been "Discovered" - That All Equipment with Tuners of this Mfr - Intentionally Have - "Limiting Adjustment Coils" - Preventing Final Performance Alignment to Reach Broadcast Sound - All Units of This Mfr Because of This - Are "Uniformly" All the Same - And Do Not Vary in Sound Performance.

"Limiting Adjustment Coils" - So the cat's out of the bag, eh? :lmao: Of course, I demand that McIntosh tell me how to remove these nefarious, performance sapping limiters from my 4100 and 2205 immediately!!!!

Ron-C, just what do you have to say in McIntosh's defense? ;)

I can come up with the truth about this situation. The seller is a nut.

What the h*** is he talking about? Does this mean I have to take back the MAC 4100 I gave my son? Hmmm? :scratch2: He won't be pleased. Love that receiver. Like his Dad, he does not do HT stuff. Check out the price. If you buy it, do you leave it in the box? Or take it out? Will it work? Anyone got $1800? I think thats what I have in 3 systems and stuff sitting around waiting to get fixed. Unit one (the livingroom) has a Mac MA 6100.

have to pay eBay to do this? Seems that the eBay's recent price increases would keep people like this from breaking out of their cells.

Cheers,

It is my medical opinion that our Mac4200 friend is unfortunately suffering from a non-operable rectal/cranial inversion that has resulted in the "Limiting Adjustment Coils" being permanently engaged in his central nervous system. There is, unfortunately, no cure for him.

Wait! There's more! He was just hired as an equipment reviewer by(insert the name here of the audio publication you most hate) :naughty:

You guys don't understand what he's saying-here's the key part-

" - Not the Relentless Discerning Audiophile That Absolutely Demands to Hear All and Everything That There is to Hear in Each and Every Radio Broadcast Transmission And Will Not Settle For Anything Else!"

See, he's hearing things in his broadcasts that nobody else does.

Apparently this guy has a marginal understanding of the sales process. He has not had a single bid in all the time its been listed!

Perhaps if he becomes an audio reviewer we will no longer be subjected to the endless stream of glowingly positive reviews ..."Is the Krell Current Tunnel technology stolen from the Wurlitzer audio wizards?? .. This much and more in next months issue of 'Weird Audio Expose'. :lmao: :lmao:

Well at least we know what he looks like!

Not only that... I just realized he's got it listed under SPEAKERS rather than stereo receivers. Talk about not missing a trick!

Now it's been relisted - under the questionably appropriate category of "Center Channel Speakers" LOL You know how popular those vintage two channel receivers are with the HT enthusiasts!

Waitamminit! His beef has been that the unit doesn't deliver "broadcast" quality from the tuner, whatever that is. Yet now he says its never been out of the box???? How the heck would he know WHAT it sounds like? Something doesn't add up.

Has somebody contacted Ebay to let them know?

It is also interesting to see ebay bidders with zero ratings aggressively driving up the price of certain items...

I've found the danger of Ebay over they years, it's not just the scam artists, and yes they are out there. But it's the hoplessly confused who have no idea what their selling and doing that probably make up the bulk. Or the victims of scams themselves who don't know it and turn around and try to profit off what they think is a windfall. On the other hand, how about a scam where the seller pretends no to know what they are doing, hopeing someone gets greedy and takes advantage of them.
