View Full Version : Hello Vintage People!
Kamakiri 06-19-2002, 07:48 AM Hey everyone! Welcome aboard!
This forum software is a bit different than everyone's used to....but here are a few things we can now do!
* Run polls
* This website will host pictures for you (no more Printroom!)
* Click "view new posts", which will show all of the posts since your last visit, instead of having to scroll for them. Click on the list and be sent automatically to the thread with new action.
* You will receive email when you have a reply to your post, if you choose to do so. You will not receive further messages until you check the thread, when you will again receive an email if more posts.
* Add administrators/moderators
* Add custom pictures (avatars) under your user name....easily! Many other functions in User CP.
I did this for all of us, so let's have some fun!
Hey Kama,
so how do I place an avatar in my sig?
I am familiar with vBulletin software (some of the other sites I frequent use it), and normally there is a separate field for the avatar URL?
Kamakiri 06-19-2002, 07:52 AM Go to "user cp", then to "edit profile". The avatar controls are at the bottom.
For some reason it only allows 50x50.....I'll change that today.
Its under "user cp" - "edit options"
And yes my image is larger than 50*50 so it won't fit at present.
Hey nice work here - I hope it takes off for you.
Kamakiri 06-19-2002, 09:20 AM Avatar size is now 200 x 200, should be big enough :D
The only bad thing is that it will not recognize .bmp images....only .jpg and .gif.
I have an image 570*480 -ish.
What's a quick way to cut that thing down in size?
Kamakiri 06-19-2002, 09:27 AM Is that the same one you use in AU? I mean, I can open it up to that size, but it'll be absolutely huge I think. The only way I know of doing it is by going to a bitmap, which won't cut it.
Any ideas anyone?
I like the new board much better! THANKS!
How many pics can we store or what is the total storgae size limit for each member?
ProAc_Fan 06-19-2002, 10:56 AM Great to see the new forum Kamakiri. Hope to have you come to the Falls soon. Hey Kamakiri how would I go about inserting photos in the message? When I click on img bar I get another window open with a prompt and http:// inside it. HELP!!

There is absolutely no limit to what you can post. None at all! I paid for the bandwidth, so go ahead and use it!

When you go to post, you'll see "attach file". Click browse, and find the picture in your system. Nice and easy!
ProAc_Fan 06-19-2002, 02:23 PM Lets try this picture thing again..
there ya go ... :D
kama is there a place within our profile to store pics? To link to from other places?
Like storing pics on my aol and then linking to them for my ebay auctions or au posts ...
Kama,
yes its the same one I use over at AU (the orange woofer) ... I know its large and I don't want you to make exceptions just for me, but I tried to crop it in "Paint" and that didn't work ... I need to shrink the bitmap image, but what proggy can I use to do it?

Well you can modify your sig to include links, but nothing in the signature for jpegs yet. If you guys want, I can enable 'em, as long as you don't make it to big because it'll show up at the bottom of each post.

I have no problems just increasing the size, but it won't accept a bitmap image.....only .jpg and .gif so let me know if it still might work.
Wardsweb 06-19-2002, 08:31 PM Kama & Walt - I've sent Walt a resized image and asked if he wanted a different size. I haven't heard back yet, so I will attach the one I did. Just in case.
Kamakiri 06-19-2002, 09:04 PM I'm a nut, what can I say? :D
I'm going to be hiring a graphic artist to do a cool-looking homepage and logo soon ( $) So what do I need? Membership! Forum ideas! Moderators!
It's our site, so let's make it everything we want it to be.
WardsWeb ...
thanks for doing that for me ... I have it in my avatar now - reason I didn't get back earlier is I am at work now, and you probably sent the avatar to my home address (which is the one I registered).
I really appreciate your help ... thanks
:D :D :D :D
Kama,
if you don't mind me asking ... why are you doing all of this? It is truly a generous thing to do as running a BB takes time (especially initially) and I would imagine that if you have a regular job, this will be cutting into your leisure time severely in the next few weeks.
Good on you for doing it, I think it is good that one of our crowd is running the site - that way the admin is responsive to suggestions ...
BTW - I am happy to do some moderation of the "New Technology" or "Off Topic" forums if required ... leave it to you :)

I'm more than happy to help with graphics and html stuff. I'm not a professional but have spent many years doing this. I started back when you had to do all your code in notepad. There were no such things as editors. Now life is easier that I have a couple thousand in software for such things.
If you like, I can point you to some of the sites I've done or at least email you pics of the index pages. Just let me know how I can help.
:)
Kama,
maybe mOOn can help you as well - he is a graphic artist, and he would probably appreciate a bit of work ... ?
Wardsweb 06-19-2002, 10:24 PM Here are some quick and dirty looks without going into 3D.

Be careful what you wish for Walt.....you're now the New Technologies moderator! :)
Why am I doing this? I'll tell you. Part of it is about giving something back to those who have imparted a lot of knowledge to us all, part of it is that since I'm on so many automotive forums, that I developed a real dislike for the limitations of YaBB.
I'm on the internet every day for most of the day every day, and at night after my little boy goes to bed, so it'll fit into the schedule nicely, actually. More time invested? Yes, but I think it'll be worthwhile. :) BTW, I had to do this login to change member status, so that's why I signed in this way.

ckelly 06-19-2002, 10:59 PM I'll be happy to help moderating vintage. :D
Kama CONGRATS!!!!!
COOL
Chris
ckelly 06-19-2002, 11:01 PM You are invited:
Shain 06-19-2002, 11:51 PM I made it !!
It's time to hit the rack, will explore the site later.
Bye, Shain
How are people posting pics mine seem to be all too big? Any way to reduce the size (in bits) without losing the quality?
Kama you should get some popups going to help offset the costs of running this, as many hits as it will get everyday you might do well, I don't mind pop ups they are easy to close and I could put up with them if they help you out.
grumpy 06-20-2002, 08:29 AM I will gladly flip a few bucks for a membership rather than dealing with pop ups.. They are the most evil thing in the world.
bully 06-20-2002, 08:50 AM yeah, me too, what grumpy said
pete
Well I like everyone here and like to read and post with everyone but I would not be willing to pay for membership :(
Is it that big of a deal to close a pop up or two when you first come to the site?
car67 06-20-2002, 09:33 AM Kama,
Great site! I like it! When do we make the move over here?
:)
Here's my first attempt at a pic :
http://www.users.bigpond.com/jcleong/g3500a.jpg
Kamakiri 06-20-2002, 09:35 AM I'm not going to do popups or charge for membership.....both are things I hate, so I'm not gonna do 'em. Let me worry about expenses :D
car67 06-20-2002, 09:42 AM That's very generous of you Kama. But if it ever gets to a choice between pop ups or a membership fee, just let me know how much!
Response time here is much better too.
What happened to my pic?
Jack:)
car67 06-20-2002, 09:53 AM trying again..

car67 06-20-2002, 09:57 AM Hope this works...
Kamakiri 06-20-2002, 04:33 PM Just thinking, should we have another forum for "latest scores"?
Richm 06-20-2002, 06:02 PM Hey Kam had to be a little sneaky to activate the account ;)
Looks like your problem with the name is not because of DNS anymore it is because your hosting company has something screwed up in their routing. It is something they should be able to fix instantly.
Rich
grumpy 06-20-2002, 06:12 PM Not a bad Idea Kam. That way we wont clog up the vintage section.
Sounds good ... I nominate the "gods" of the score, Don and Grump to moderate!
Can we have a "Drunken Fools" Forum?? I think I am qualified to moderate, you know you wanna touch me knobs ;)
JohnnyHiFi 06-21-2002, 02:30 AM Kamakiri, I would just like to say you are one hell of a guy for starting this form! You the man! Thanks!
Johnny
bully 04-26-2005, 01:36 PM bump
bignfat 04-26-2005, 02:27 PM I love the new scores idea!!!!! :thmbsp:
BIGNFAT
Kamakiri 04-26-2005, 03:28 PM Wow, a blast from the past......the 3rd thread posted at AK :)
Dave918 04-26-2005, 03:35 PM Still reeling from the subject of a recent thread, I misread the title on this one as Hello Village People and was headed in to shut 'er down! Not that there is anything wrong with that title you understand  :stupid:
Oh my gawd, just noticed the pic of Thor :yikes:
/d
Richm 04-26-2005, 05:13 PM Oh those are the days of the old Thor. He has matured since we first met him and acts all of 12 now !
Dave918 04-26-2005, 05:30 PM I was gonna say 8 or 9, but ok - 12 it is :D
