A fellow member tells me the factory no longer supports older equipment like the MAC-1700. Is this true? Is there a cut-off point at which this gear is no longer supported (the MAC-1700 production overlaps with the C-28 production and the C-28 is still supported, I believe) or is this determination made on a piece-by-piece basis? Thanks.

McIntosh has not serviced the tube gear from the 60s or earlier since the 1980s. We do sell parts but do not perform the servicing. The main problem and this is also for the early solid state units, is a lack of replacement parts especially switches and controls. Some models have parts lists where more than half of all parts used are not available.
Anything can be repaired of course for a price. Some techs like Terry-D, Mike Zucaro and others do work on the old units. It is far easier to repair a 1954 MC30 than a 1966 MAC1700. Every part but the transformers and chassis for the Mc30 are available in the aftermarket parts inventory.
McIntosh will still work on the C28, MA6100, MAC1900 and other old models but this will not continue forever. The amps are easier but trim parts, meters, chassis metal, and others are gone for the MC2100, MC2300, MC2105 etc. Glass is still made for the units back to the early 70s but may not be run but once or twice a year.

Speaking of Mike, is there an em address for him? I believe he's in the San Diego area?

Thanks,
