Anybody out there have any experience with these? I've got a pair but the cabs are wasted. All of the drivers work but the woofers need new foam and I believe something in the crossover is gone as the tweeters do not work unlees they are hooked up bipassing the x-over. Worth a new cabs or just part them out? I might add I like lots of bass. Thanks to all in advance.

I heard them new. They are nice. I bought the next model down in the line, Reference Studio Monitors. The difference seemed to be the nice cabinet with rounded corners and the Watkins woofer on the 1.5s. List was 900, but they usually sold for less. I don't know if I would fix them up or not. If you could find some infinity cabinets that are nice but with bad drivers, it would be worthwhile to make a swap. I have seen some Quantum Juniors that were nice looking but with Pyle woofers locally, but that was a while back. Something like that would be good. Another option would be to part them out on eBay, that's what I usually do if the cabinets are bad.

Thanks Don. The cabinets don't look like they would be difficult to duplicate everything is still there. I rescued these from about a year of sitting outdoors, thus the cabinet condition. Obviously if the drivers were not poly they would be ruined as well. I can't help wondering what they would sound like :scratch2: . To build or not to build?

If all the drivers work and you can find or build some cabinets without breaking the bank, I'd say go for it. Pretty impressive speaker when working properly...

This is the only thread I found on this site for these. A pair came up locally to me and does anyone have any insight into these? I found a few threads via google but wanted the opinions of the experts here!
The surrounds were supposedly redone and the cabinets are clean and will come with the stands too.

Depends on the cost, but I'd still want to get them if I found a set nearby.

The seller wants 125.00 for the pair including stands. I just got an email with pics but haven't even opened them yet.

Sounds like a good deal. I've seen the RSM go several times for near unto $400 and it doesn't have the Watkins. For a pair of 12" Watkins, that's a cheaper price then even just picking up the drivers and those are most certainly excellent drivers unto themselves. The same were used in the big Infinity Quantums, which went flat down to 18 Hz, and in the bigger RS series, like Army's RS-2.5s, which he swears by.
Some more info on the 1.5s can be found here (http://www.infinity-classics.de/infinity/models/Reference-series-1978-klein/Reference-Standard-1.5/body_rs_1_5.html).

Here is my only concern. Check this refoamed woofer. Looks like Elmer's glue was used!

Well, the glue used in refoaming is essentially Elmer's glue. Doesn't look like too great a refoam job, but if it works, no matter. If it doesn't, it's a simple matter to refoam them again or even send them to Dr. Watkins (http://www.watkinsstereo.com/pages/1/index.htm), the original design of that woofer who still does refoam/rebuilds of these woofers.
I'm kind of surprised to have found this auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/Infinity-Reference-Standard-1-5-Speakers-Emit-Tweeters_W0QQitemZ5811993544QQcategoryZ61376QQssPa geNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) having a pair of these going for a fairly low price. It must largely be due to the seller not advertising the Watkins woofer and the fact that this pair was pretty rough.

Contacted them to see what I might be getting into thanks! I like the classic styling of these speakers. Never heard them personally.

Here are the homemade stands. Not too bad looking actually.
