Just picked up a cheap DBX 228, it had a couple of broken switch shafts, I was able to get those working sort of. It didn't come with a manual and I wondering if one has one of these and can help me set it up. I'm not sure if it's working or not.

This is a combination expander/noise reduction unit. I'm not sure how to set the levels on the back. There are three settings. Disk, tape play and tape record. I imagine I don't need to mess with the disk since I don't have any DBX encoded LP's.

I also have a transistion slide control on the front panel that I'm not exactly sure what it does or where to set it. It seems to increase the gain out of the unit.

With out the manual I'm, really lost on how this is suppose to work. Any help would be appreciated.

Well I have a 224 btw it's been sitting away for about ten years. So I try. When recording they say you can burn hotter then the dobly 0 setting but they say with a reel-reel you can go very high in to the red with fast meter's. Also back it down 3 db when you hit the tape limit, so test this in the loud's passage, of the CD.

Now for a cass. tape deck they say set the meter's at 2to5db db+
over the dobly 0 setting.

(I also have a transistion slide control on the front panel that I'm not exactly sure what it does or where to set it. It seems to increase the gain out of the unit. ) They say the unit come's pre-set. So then this is there to only match up the level, I guess.

Hi PX;

You might try this link. They seem to have bought up the parts and manuals from a local vintage place called the soundwell that use to support the DBX lone.
