Ok so you are gonna use your McIntosh amp on the Ohms right?

Well when ya gonna do it?

We've all been waiting to hear how that damm amp sounds for months now!

Don't give us none of that "I need a preamp" boloney neither you got almost as many recievers as that Marantz whore Shain does so you gotta have one that has pre amp outs on it.

Come on fire em' up give us a review!!

Also, I really love the looks of the Mcintosh amps but am I the only one who finds the looks of their pre amps lacking?? Come on at least give us one big knob for the volume

As much as Id like to sit here and tell ya all how the mac and Ohms sound I cant. Why you ask ? Well its in the shop. Seems there was a problem with one of the channels. I prolly wont have it back for 1 1/2- 2 weeks. I did get a chance to play around with the F's today and Boy the more I listen to them the more I am digging the hell outta them. So far they are easily the best I have had. Today I spent a few hours with them and my favorite FM stations. The first thing I noticed was that I didnt need as much volume to rock as with an LP. Guess that means I need a better phono amp with more gain or a higher output cartridge. I got the levels outta them that I was expecting. I may bring them down to the Midwest Audiofest so others can check them out. Only prob is I aint draggin my Mac down there to. If anyones planning on attending and has more then 1 1/2 watts they would like to share let me know. :D

Oh.. my backroom is now "The Shop".. :p:

I had the big MAC hooked up to the huge Ohm I's and wasn't too impressed. My "little" Marantz 250 sounded better. One of the meters isn't working and Grumps getting a manual so I can bring it back to where it should be.

I also have a MAC 1900 that should be ready for Grump in the next week or so. I'm trying to talk him into using it as a Tuner pre-amp. The tuner section is one of the best I've ever heard.

The Mac amp maybe nice but with it's autoformer outputs I'm not conviced it will sound very good with the wild impedance swings the F's are going to throw at it.

Actually, the autoformers are THE ANSWER for complex loads since their purpose to make sure that the amp sees a steady impedance at all loads. This also is the reason why some people think Mcs are a big bass thin. Most speakers have a dip in impedance in the lower registers. With ss amps the current and power increases in the bass region. This increase in power is what gives some amps what is perceived to be better bass, in reality a bass hump. Surprisingly, there does not seem to be a lot of information or discussion on this.

Thor,
I totally agree that the McIntosh preamps are amongst the ugliest looking things ever created. No one should ever have to cast their eyes on them. Even Medusa is better looking. Since I am a total glutton for punishement you may save your eyes and associated effects of revulsion by sending those horrible looking things (McIntosh preamps, not Medusa) immediatley to me. I have, like Ghostbusters a secure recepticle to receive, secure them through the use of various cables and the potential of electricution by connecting them into the local electrical security system provided by my electric supplier, and monitoring their continued presence by making them communicate on a continuing basis. There will be no charge to you or any others who wish to utilize this service since I am doing this in an effort to eliminate all McIntosh obscenities from the world .

Thor, me thinks you crazy. Me thinks McIntosh is some of the finest looking gear money can buy.

I think their amps are the best looking ones out there, and their tuners are nice too. I just really don't like the tiny knobs and I'm not too fond of those push buttons.

Just on principle the volume knob on any audio gear should be bigger than the rest of the knobs so that drunken fingers can easily find it in dark and smokey confines ;)

Well, like Brian said. Whenever you come across the real butt ugly ones you can sure send this way as well. I'll be happy to take them there ugly preamps with their pushbuttons and tiny volume control knobs off your hands.
