last post of the night....well kinda night here.
I read this white paper on upsampling...www.av123.com/pt_interpolate3.html
I'll say this. I used a sony d5a PCDP for a source. It was the first portable out. I switched to a sony PCDP D33 with 8x oversampling and the change was obvious.
After reading the paper, I am now more concerned with oversampling than upsampling.
comments?
thanks,
md

I dug this post out for I heard some differences tonight. I hooked up my Sony D5 pcdp to my Fisher to see how those polks sounded. I found the polks airy and very real....
but when I brought the same cd to my bedroom, with my play it all cd/dvd player...I found the sound cold.
The reason I bring this up is that the D5 was the first portable cd player Sony sold. I am not sure of what it does, but with my Fisher it does sound better than my current source. I have a feeling it does not have any sampling at all. Hence the almost vinyl quality of the sound when played through my Fisher and the polks.
if you read the xrcd post, it starts to make sense...

As I mentioned elsewhere, since I tried non-upsampling digital-filterless, I am no longer interested in other digital technologies.
