Okay, I finally can make out the details of both units. Let's see if I've got it straight. It is a preamp/tuner and power amp. The output cables are in a cavity and plug into the power amp and the power amp and preamp/tuner chassis have a set of rails where they can mate. Have I got it? And if so, how is it a receiver? If I take say a McIntosh MX117 and put a couple of rails on it and screw the rails onto a MC2600 (same as what this seems to be doing) then I have a 300 watt per channel McIntosh receiver or screw it to a pair of stacked MC1000s and have a 1,000 per channel receiver or to a pair of MC3500 amps and have a 250 (tube) watt per channel receiver.

In the connections between the two pieces, a connection is also made for the preamp/tuner's power supply to an ac outlet located on the power amp. Tuner-Amplifier is just a fancier word for a Receiver though some receivers that are given this designation might be built to a higher standard. In any case, if the unit can play radio broadcasts as the G-33000 obviously can, then its a receiver, right? Same applies to the G-22000 as well.

I understand that tuner-amp (on a single chassis) = a receiver but this is a tuner/preamp and a power amp on separate chassis and is being called a receiver. I know this is like trivia pursuit but I just can not get this combination to fit into the definition of a receiver. Regardless of what it is, it is a wild unit and I'd like to have it alongside my McIntosh MX110 tuner/preamp and separate amp (or is that a hybrid receiver with a tube tuner/preampp with a ss power amp). Grief, and it is not even tax season yet!!!

All I can do is laugh...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
With that out of the way, I will tell you that it definitly is a receiver. It even says so on the front. :D
However, since I have the tuner unit on one shelf and the amp section in a closed cabinet under it, I suppose it could be a set of seperates too.
The one thing about this series of units is that it definitly is the cornerstone of any shelving system. I am getting ready to build a set of shelves for my G-22000 and it is what all else is designed around. If you split the 2 units, then you don't have as much chance of warping the shelves. It has warped just about anything I have put it on, even a 1 inch thick TV cabinet top.

The G-22000 and G-33000 are recievers, they can also bolt together so that they appear to be one unit, the highest wattage reciever is the Technics SA-1000 at 330wpc.

I'll order a new faceplate for my MX110 that says receiver and am going to buy a pair of MC2600s and rack mount the whole thing so I can have a McIntosh receiver of 4x600 (or 2x1200) watts. It will all be in 1 cabinet but will have 5 chassis. Then I'll find a pair of Radio Shack Minimus 7s for the system (because I'll have neither the space for anything larger or any money left over) or borrow a cetrtain pair of CVs. javascript:smilie(':D')
