Hi,
this time I am doing it still better than the three previous Magnavox amps I already restored (and that many of you appreciated in my past posts).
It is another EL84 Push-Pull amp (93 series) from a console.
First of all I removed the molex connector and all the useless wires connected to it.
Then I installed a on-off switch and a fuse, and replaced the old power cord with a new one.
Then I removed the three fast-on speaker connectors and a replaced them with a strip of modern speaker posts where you can "clamp in" the bare wires.
I checked tubes and they are still ok.
Then I tested the amp for a while and it sounded great. As there is no audible hum, I suppose filter caps are still ok, so I didn't replace them.
The two .047uf coupling caps seem still in great shape, and I don't know if I will replace them. I have a pair of big russian teflon .056uf that I could use for this (and many rave about their sound), but I don't know if they will fit in the space.
Then comes the cosmetic restoration.
I filled all the holes on the chassis with putty for metals (in the past I only cleaned a bit the chassis), and I will have all the chassis painted with a nice metallic grey painting (professionally painted, not by myself with a spray bottle).
On my previous Magnavox amps, I put nice exotic wood pieces around three sides of the amps, but this time the frame will be complete, around all four sides.
The wood is the same nice Cabreuva Incenso (from Brasil) that I used for my first Magnavox EL84PP.
Unfortunately I cannot still post pics because the wood frame is not ready, and I can have the chassis painted only toward the end of the week. However I am so excited about this restoration that I wanted to share it with you right now.
I hope to be able to post the pics in the weekend or in the first days of next week at the latest.
If you liked my other restored magnavox amps, I am sure you will love it.
Thanks
Raul
