Heres the most recent shot of the basement, Hpm 100's stacked on Cerwin Vega D9's. The Hpms definetely sound better on the ground so they will be coming down.

Thanks again to Krimney who i got the Hpms off of !!! :thmbsp:

Very nice setup!

Is that an Akai amp? Don't think I have ever seen one before. Any other pics/specs of it?

Are you into playing Chess (as I very much am), or is the board I see in the pic more of just a decorative thing?

nice setup, lots of 'quiptment :D

how do those athena surrounds sound? i always see them on ebay? do they sound good enough to be used as bookshelfs by themselves?

I've seen it in person and it is one sweet lookin amp.

I'm not sure about the D9 though, looks like they took a PA speaker and put it in a vinyl box for home use. The tweeter looks alot like what I've seen in PA stuff and why two mids? I've never heard a set so I'm only basing my opinion on looks alone and I've heard some awful ugly speakers that sound awesome.

Glad you like the HPM-100. From the little I listened to them I can say they will hold their own with alot of speakers costing 2-3 times as much.

i've heard some awfully good PA speakers krimney.... D9's are nice. and Uncooked, that looks like a killer setup!

I would say the chess board is mostly for looks.... BUT it does get played every so often.

The athena surround is awsome, "although it will be slowly upgraded" The speakers sound awsome, but if you listen to a movie as loud as i do they start to crap out on yea, but it is VERY loud before they do.

Now the Akai, i have been trying to find out about this thing for so long, no info on it at all. Its an Akai Ps-120m The factory ratings are 130 watts a channel 8 ohm at .008thd. It can take a 4 ohm loud no sweat, and takes 550 W from the wall.

I'm not knockin PA speakers.....I've got a "rather large set" in use in my living room. They are connected to my philips 200wpc amp and they sound very good. I was listening to Dolly Parton(I know probably not your guys music) this evening and it sounded great.

I guess after reading all the info about the D9 I was expecting something more flashy or impressive looking. If they sound anything like the CV I've got then I'm sold.

Last weekend Vancouver, next weekend Edmonton :D I feel like a Beach Boys song :scratch2: :lmao:

some decent reviews on them there.

I will get a full review on them as soon as i get my dam woofers back

I put the hpms back on the floor and its a HUGE difference, i wouldnt recommend putting hpms up off the floor like i had them up on the cerwins, they didnt sound good at all up there, completely changed them, now there back down and they belt out awsome sound again.

I've got my two pairs of HPMs in top one upside down stacked configuration. Thay sit on my subs which are 18 inches high. To me the HPMs are lean on the real deep bass, say 40 hz and down. But with the way they present up in the air like I have mine I can't imagine a pair sounding as big when placed on the floor. I'ts a larger than life sound field. Then again, I've never tried it.

I have my HPM-900s sitting atop my big 15-inch subwoofers. "Upside down," so the woofers are even higher off the floor.
The bass is still solid. I would like to be able to put them on some stands I have that are about 7-8" high and angled slightly back. But no room for that in the family room. BTW, sitting atop the HPMs are my JBL L100s.

I've been wondering if Akai ever made a decent power amp - and now I see that they did! I have seen seperate tuners and preamps and always thought "hmmm, where are the power amps...?" Now I get to see one - looks very nice!

uncooked,
Great looking basement setup. I like the D-9'S and HPM-100's combo. The Akai look's hefty enough for almost any aplication.

radioactive,
Great looking D-9's also, what's on the woofer on the left?

would you really need more bass? Cerwin Vegas, at least mine, have GROUND SHAKING bass. they really are good speakers, but I like HPMs better. I think it would do nicely the way you have it. Also, anyone compared the mids on HPM 100s to JBL 100s ? Are JBL's mids better?

I've got my HPM-900s setting on stands about 6" off the floor and the bass is awesome. Maybe it depends on what you're driving them with.

well heres even more recent.

Now the d9's and the Hpms are hooked up in parallel off the akai and they both run at once. Talk about some kick ass bass, havent really tested them out to much but i will later tonight :naughty:

Heres a few pics i snagged while down their, pretty bad but better then nothing. I ll get some more tonight. I know some of you want some better pics of the new woofers in the d9's

Ive gotta get photoshop up on my computer again so i can lower the size of the pics but keep em big, with this kodak program i can only shrink em to get em to fit under the kb rating on the site so there kinda small.

ive got photoshop on a disk somewhere around here i just have to load it up.

I mentioned before that i didnt like the sound of the hpms up off the floor but now that i have flipped them "you can see in the last couple pics i put up" they sound WAY better. the mid and tweet are ear height now and it makes a huge difference.

Hey uc you have hpm 60's stacked on your d-9's wow tell me how that sounds. i have my newly rebuilt cs-77's new tweets andf mids with new caps in the x 0ver i take all the mids out of the d-9's and boost up the highs all the way then set the cs-77's for mids and highhs for the ambience. through the 700b and let me tell you i think it sounds better then dads spec1 and 2 with his hpm 150's and that is quite hard to match that kind of sound but having it beat now that was a miracle with my gearjust check my sig.
