These are the most incredible headphone / earspeakers I've ever heard. Very clean and crisp, just the way I like it. You wire them in like regular speakers. So they are the remote speaker on the Marantz.

Or plug them into the soundcard of a computer which is the only place I use headphones. So despite the fact they are wonderful I had to let them them go to someone who could enjoy them.

Last Saturday I went to a fellow Head-fi user and heard his current model Stax Omega IIs. They were powered by the Stax 717 amp with an Arcam CD23 as the source.
If I were to get and spend the bucks on a dedicated headphone system I would go with Stax. The presentation of the music, man I just can't say enought about them. They ARE earspeakers. The soundstage is so far back compared to my Grado SR325s but without loss of details. The music presentation is nothing short of what I would want out of my speaker system. He also had a pair of Stax Lambdas on hand that I thought sounded closer to my cans.
The Stax cans used dedicated amps for they are electrostatic, not dynamic like most phones hence the funny connector. I believe you can use any source you want, but you must use the dedicated amp.
Thor, couldn't you have used a 1/8 to rca splitter? They look like older model Stax, but I don't believe that there wasn't someway you could have hooked them up.
By the way, the Omega IIs with cans and amp were like $2600 sans source.
Nice score ward:) I am jealous.

See Ward I hooked you up! Now we are even for the SAE deal ;) (well mebbe not really, but we're getting there!)

$50 was a good profit for me since I got them for free as a Thank you for giving Sixcats a square deal on a pair of HPM 100 speakers I kinda stole out from under him.

To make a long story short back in the AU days when I was a real vintage noob, I found a pair of HPM 100 speakers at a pawn shop. After finding out how great they were I figured I would never be able to afford them so I told sixcats, who lives about an hour from me, where they were and how to get there and that he was welcome to them. A couple of days later I am in the pawn shop again and just for the hell of it I ask what he wants for them and he says $100  Shocked at the unbeleivable low price I grabbed them and ran home and emailed cats telling him not to come up and that I had got them. He emailed me back later that night after he got back from driving two hours to get them and getting lost along the way, only to find them gone. He wasn't too pleased with me and I felt like crud about it so I told him I would sell him them to him for what I bought them for. I felt it was only fair. Well he was so impressed with my kewlness that when he came up to get them he not only gave me the $100 for them he thru in a mint Technics SA-500 in the box, and the STAX earspeakers.

The STAX adapter plugs into a reciever or pre amp just like regular speakers, there are 4 color coded bare wires that are plugged in like speaker cords. So you can only use them thru sumthin in that fashion, unfortunately for me but luckily for Ward they are a no go for just plugging into a soundcard on a comp which is the only time I wear headphones. I really don't like to wear headphones at all. Another bonus is that the STAX were incredibly comfortable, they don't feel like a vise on your head like many others.

What goes around, comes around...

Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you...

I't's better to give than receive ... well maybe :D

Thanks Thor, they have found a good home.

Sixcats you will have to come up the next weekend I have a bash! You're only about an hour away dood!

What have I bought? Wellllllllllllllllllllllll I have bought alot! 4 amps, 2 pre amps, tuner, 2 recievers, 3 more pairs of speakers, and about $150 worth of IC's

My main system now consists of my CV's, powered by 3 amps, two Luxman M-120A running in mono (300wpc each) running the bottoms of the CV's and an SAE A301 amp (175 wpc) running the tops of the CV's and another Luxman M-120A in stereo (120wpc) running the Altec Lansing Model 15's, I have it all controlled with a Luxman C-120A pre amp.
