So I noticed a pair of these down at a local 2nd hand store. The woofers are in great shape but I don't know how good the EMIT tweeters are. I have heard that they are easy to fry if not run with enough watts.
My question...if the tweeters are in good shape, are these speakers going to work well with either:
Marantz 2275 (75 wpc)
Pioneer SX-1050 (125 wpc)
Kenwood KA-907 (150 wpc)
Oh, and the price is also $70 but I think I may be able to talk him down some.
Opinions? Anyone?
Thanks

I wouldnt have left that store without them, that is if they were in good working order and cosmetic condition. Ive been looking for a set for a while now. Even for 70 bucks the price is not bad but for say 50 bucks id be smiling all the way home. Check here for the specs. http://oellerer.net/infinity_classics/

Thanks Grumpy. I will definitely go check them out again and inspect the tweeter, the cabs and grills looked in good condition, about what I would expect in condition for that era of speaker.
Is the fuse on the back hard to replace if it happens to be missing or blown?
You think they would be good with any of the amps I listed?
Thanks!

That site rocked by the way...great resource on Infinity speakers!
I also found this site when I was searching earlier for info about them.

I would expect the QE to go well with all the gear you mentioned.

Well, I think I have to chime in here- being that I own two pairs of Qe's. (In addition to the Renaissance 90, Quantum 3, and Qb):)
Have no fear about any of the amps/receivers you mentioned. They will all work fine with the Qe's. The Qe is the littlest brother in the Infinity Q Line of 1978-80. A very simple and straightforward 2 way speaker system. An 8" woofer and an EMIT tweeter. And sometimes, simple is nice- more reliable and less things that can go wrong as they might in a more complex design. (The Qa is the same but with 10" woofer and Qb is a 3 way, adding a midrange driver). Being larger and having the mid-driver, the Qb is a noticeably better (fuller) sounding speaker than the little Qe, but for what it does offer, the Qe does sound very nice.
The fuse is a 1 1 /4 Amp (1.25 amp) - the added quarter is a little unusual as I dont see that many of them around, but not a problem as you can always substitute a 1 amp fuse if need be. Its a 4 ohm speaker- but again- I really dont see any need to be concerned about which amp you partner it with. A Quantum 3, Q2... QLS etc- which have an array of EMIT's, midbass coupler, midrange driver etc.. and 12" woofer- thats another story.
The price you mentioned is reasonable and if you can get them for even less, that would be nice too. The EMITs by the way can be rotated 90 degrees and you can then lay the speakers on its side if that's better suited to how you want to place them in your room- a nice option to have.
