Just came back from the store and for 5 bucks I walked out the door with her(about 8/10 condition :D ). She turns on, time adjusts, that's all I know. I don't have a beta tape, yet! Imagine my surprise when I cheked completed auctions and this popped up,
hmmm... (http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39830&item=5755328199&rd=1) not my pic but she looks just like her.

5 vs. 155! Score:thmbsp:!!

Does the front strip stand for a whole "Simulated wood cabinet" or is there more somewhere that would justify the sticker :D?

Wow that brought back some memories. That was my folks first VCR back in 1982 or so. Very expensive back then, around $700 I believe.

Heavy as heck. Overbuilt machine. Our sample tended to eat tapes tho. I think it wasn't the machine's fault, but rather the incompetent techs of the day.

Cool eh crooner! I played around with her a little bit today, had to pop her cover off and spun what I think is the take-up wheel, or something like that. Once she was running she loaded the tape. FF, REW, PLAY seem to work but she obviously needs a new belt, she plays slow. I'll be able to try an assortment of different belts next week.

Nice machines. Beta was superior to VHS, IMO.
Back in the 80s, techs that were succesfully able to resurrect SL-5000's were valuable assets. Almost rocket science to work on those beasts!!! :D

I used to live in Venezuela at the time. One of the very few countries in which Beta outsold VHS! The SL-5000 was popular, if not the most popular model during the early 80s.

Thanks for the thumbs up on the SX-1980. Tonight I plan to do the major repairs. I have some redbull at hand on a surely, looooooong night! :worried:

It's not a Hi-Fi, or the model number would be SLHF-5000. Still, for $5, worthy of grabbing.

I believe that model came immediately after the SL-5000. Late 82, early 83, IIRC.
