50 beans total ...I have not hooked it all up yet. I plugged each in and they powered up. Previous (original) owner said they both worked fine. He "upgraded" to smaller digital ready components. :o

The amp its rated at 100wpc 8 ohms or 135 4 ohms. It's quite HEAVY!

I imagine they'll end up on ebay because I'm quite happy with my current system.:p:

Orion says it's value is $47  :dunno:

Yeah, the amp also won awards for its visual design. The tuner usually goes cheaper on eBay, but the amp can often get the bidding juices ramped up.
I have a TOTL Mitsu cdplayer, still my best one, built very solidly.

There is an optional set of huge VU meters available for their amp series! They mate together. That looks really awesome together.

Good score!

bully if you find any pics of those VU meters I'd love to see em! Maybe I'll keep this beat and pick up a set of the meters. Meters are F-U-N! :p:

The VU meters that exactly match, come up on ebay now and then. Mitsu gear is one I keep an eye on, I've tried a couple of times for one of their amps, the 150x2 unit, IIRC, looks just like yours.
I have an MC-5100 cdplayer, and it is as solid as a brick.

Bully I did see a couple old auctions for mitsubishi meters. Only one had pics though ...the meteres were green bar type. Not the power meters I was thinking of. Are these the ones? http://members.accessus.net/~mgkdragn/mitsumeter.JPG

I just hooked these pieces up and am pretty impressed! The amp is a deep well of power! The tuner pulls in all the usual stations and has cool left and right tone controls but no balance. Kinda weird but it works well.

I do not know what year they were made. :dunno:

It's funny how orion lists the amp at $47 and the tuner at $36. Ebay sales say the amp sells for around $220 and the tuner around $180!

Dang it, ya learn something every day. Is Mitsubishi pretty good across the board, I saw some at a thrift the other day, A tape deck and speakers. Just when you think you really don't know anything about vintage gear, something comes along and makes you realize that you know even less than nothing
I think I am just going to start picking up anything that looks interesting. Of course using the lift test, needs at least a bit of heft to it, I like my gear like my women, beefy enough to get the job done :D
Any ideas on BIC turntables, ones been sitting on the shelf for weeks now.

Mitsu did make a series of speakers that were very good reproducers. Very heavy cabinets. DS-40CS was a 12-inch, 2-way system, finished in rosewood & about 70 lbs each. The DS-50CS was the big brother. Around 1979.
Hard to say whether all their gear was to the same standards to what I have actually seen and heard, but what I know would make me at least look twice.

I was at an estate sale today and in a cabinet were three similar mitsubishi components. They all had the number 30 in them. I wasnt sure so I left em alone.

I just checked ebay and saw all the components there in completed auctions. I don't feel bad that I didn't get them now!
They appear to be a little newer and sell for a lot less than the mitsubishi goods I got yesterday

Ditto, thoots, re BIC. They made changers, as opposed to turntables (eh, remember that distinction?). They did make a couple quite decent changers. IIRC, the 960 received very good marks. But, I'd think of 'em as just old TTs.

Bully

Ive had a few Bics. They made some pretty good TT. Not Great but not bad either. I had the 920 (I think thats what it was) and a 980. Definately stick with the 980 if looking for Bics.

I kinda have a thing against plastic when it comes to TT, so I usually pass the BIC's that I have seen. I think my next TT will be a little Marantz 6100 that I saw the other day. The DD thing is not my favorite, but I may give it a try. I want something for the bedroom that has auto-return/lift, too many thump, thump wake-ups with the AR-XA.

Don
06-22-2002, 07:39 AM
yes, the return lift on a TT is a very good thing. Even better IMO. is the ability to play 4,5, or 6 LPs in a row like the SL1950 technics I just sold. Granted, it was made almost entirely out of grey plastic.

I'm TT'less now! Arrrrghhh!

That tuner actually looks like the tuner-pre amp unit. I bought the tuner (with digital and analog tuning) pre amp and power amp new in 1980 and am still using them today. They are dual mono with complete (and totally seperate) left and right channels on one chassis. When I bought the setup, the store I bought it from used the pre and power amp to demonstrate all of their components because of the super clean sound they got from them.

Don

you are correct! it is also a preamp--pretty neat design. Sounds awesome too!
