Well, I finally got a new guitar. I went to the Kings of Leon concert in DC on 2/26 and fell in love with Matthew's Epiphone Sheraton. I went with the Dot because it is nearly identical yet quite a bit cheaper (around $1200 cheaper!). It's also nearly identical to the Epi Riviera that Lou Reed is playing on the cover of his Transformer LP.

I am no guitar ace by any stretch. I just love to strum along to whatever I got playin' on the stereo. It has a beautiful southern flavor to it! Of course, I chose the Sunburst finish. More than likely, this will be the last guitar I buy for the next 20 years!

Here is an interview with Matthew Followill, lead guitarist in the Kings of Leon: http://www.gibson.com/absolutenm/templates/FeatureTemplate.aspx?articleid=106&zoneid=2

Hey R2R, that bearded dude was a present? Does he go with the decor?! :scratch2:

Bad joke. I love the blue "burst" finish. One thing I am going to have to learn is how to navigate the tuning dials. All I know is the old Volume & Tone pots on my cheap-O Washburn I've used for the last few years!!

I was able to talk the Guitar Center guy from $399 down to $360, so I think I made out well.

Lemme ask you guys something: What type of strings should I use? I have been using Ernie Ball strings for years, but I am not sure what is appropriate for a slim hollow-body like the Dot.

May I just say..."Yo" now dats nice. If you've been accustomed to EB's stick
w/them. I have used alot of different varieties, D'Addarios, EB's, Fender, even
bulk strings. Found out-dere ain't much differance. Just keep your fretboard clean
( wipe it clean in between string changes to get rid of grime and use a little
fingerboard oil)... :) You'll be happy you did. Nice axe dude! :thmbsp:

I went through many strings til I settled on these. I use them on lesPaul Copy and a BC rich, maybe, Eagle. Try different types til you find the sound you want. These hold tuning pretty good also. on Lp 10- 46. little more bass. the BC rich 10-38. DEAN MARKLEY

The Epiphone is sweet!I myself am looking at an Epiphone Emperor Regent and am sorlry tempted to make the purchase.AS for strings, your guitar is similar to a Gibson ES-335 which has the pick-ups mounted to a hardwood sustain block to minimize feedback. Thus it can technically be termed a semi-hollowbody.I think that ernie ball slinkys should fit the bill(.10 hgh E).You may want to experiment with heavier strings to see if the tone is enhanced.Looks like you got a good deal on a fine guitar!

i really like using bronze strings on a true hollowbody electric, and then tuning down a half step. sounds nice and fat!

Elixer electric 10s sound good on my humbucker guitars, and they keep from sounding dead right up until they break.Gibson strings (rock electrics) sound good if you can find 'em. I never did like the way D'Addario strings sound on a humbucker-equipped guitar, but that's my personal taste.

Oh, and watch out for those strings that have a black anticorrosive coating. I don't remember what brand they are, but they have a muted sound. They would be good to mellow out a piercingly bright guitar, but your Dot will definitely NOT be piercingly bright.
