I've noticed that, off and on, the right channel on my amp has had less volume than the left. Just a moment ago, while watching the NCAA basketball tournament, I noticed that it was worse than ever. I tried changing settings, reversing channels with the knob, switching to other sources during commercial breaks, checking interconnects, etc.

Finally I switched off the muting, which I had been keeping on to try to prevent accidental speaker meltdown. The channel volume evened out, and it sounds much better.

Don't want to pull the amp out of the system while the Chattanooga/Wake Forest game is so close, but I guess the first thing to try is some DeOxIt on the muting switch? -- Foe

My Pioneer SX-1280 did the same thing when I got it, cut out on one channel. I was even more ignorant then than now( I know EW is thinking "How is that possible?") I thought it was major. Turned out to be dirty switches. Sometimes you will see gear on Ebay that says it has a channel out, when all they need is cleaning..

Hey Foe, this is very interesting. I have a SA-9800 that I am having the same experience with, on the right channel. I switched of the mute switch, and voila, it evened out.

My first try with DeOxIt on the switch didn't help.

Today, I got the SA-9800 back out and cleaned the switch a second time, using the record level tone generator on my TX-610 tuner for testing. Having an even volume tone made it easy to see when I was getting even levels from both channels on the flouroscan meter and the headphones, with the muting switch in either position.

Doc, I'm glad that my question helped you out as well -- Foe

I have a similar problem with my SA-8800, but there is the Mode-Selector which needs cleaning.
