linn lvv tonearm bearing advice / part

ahh.. in my haste to get a decent? arm on my lenco GL75 deck i noticed some play in the Linn LVV arm i got from ebay.. the kind when you try to twist the headshell you feel the arm tube roll slightly... annoyed i tried to gently tighten the bearing screws.. they are a two part design.. but one screw, the pointed end one that moves against the bearings was jammed tight against it's outer screw... when i tried to free these two the head came off the inner screw!,

i can get it back to how it was with play but i can't tighten this up now at all.

are these bearing screws shared with other arm design?
how much play is acceptable on a tone arm (i suspect none)?
there also appeared to be slight play in the horizontal movement too? Is this a worn arm / non fixable?
