Was curious if anyone had ever thought of undertaking a Sansui serial number registry....it might give some good information on actual production numbers of units built, as well as a good way to trace a Sansui's future history.

Yes, I already have thought of Sansui serial # registry, it was started over at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/classicsansui/database?method=reportRows&tbl=1
If you want to have a Database here, I dont see why anyone would object.

"We" should have it on 'our' own board. That yahoo group is not an open group (like the fmtuners group).
I have heard to many comments about what a chucklehead the list owner of that group is, so I'd rather not have anything to do with that particular list.

Yes, I know particularly well what you mean about that site's host as I had a disagreement with him not that long ago and since then Ive havent contributed at all to his site. Whatever contributions I can make willl be going instead to Isao's site at www.sansui.us until I ultimately contruct a site or webpage of my own.

Hiya, BF, when you get it up, I'm votin' for a link here on the links page!
I think a general SN decoding source would be a neat thing.

I think it will be very useful to have a Sansui resource page too on this site. Just thinking out loud, it should have :
- a registry of serial numbers as suggested. To save retyping, I've downloaded the table from the classic sansui forum and can extract the details on the units owned by members here. I've got it on Excel and can send it to someone to then upload it here.
- look up table of model numbers with basic stats like years in production, wpc and distortion. This could be put together from various catalogues (i've got three and BF would have many more :)) and maybe pics can be added later.
- A sticky of the post where BF explained how to decipher the serial number.
cheers
Jack
