Went to the record store after lunch today to pick some new inner and outer sleeves. Ended buying Year of the Cat and Steely Dan's Katy Lied on MoFi for about $70 together. Both near mint and the guy threw in the 50 inner LP sleeves and 50 outer 7in for free!
Popped into the SA five doors down and found Billy Joel's Glass Houses (NM), Alan Parsons' Eye in the Sky(NM) and Sat Night Fever(so-so) for 60c each!
Vinyl land is strange place sometimes but I'm not complaining!

You done well Jack. Katy Lied is #1 on the list of most collectible and valuable MFSL LP's. Why? Beats me. Maybe they didn't sell alot and are therefore hard to get.
I love Steeley Dan but why did Mofi choose to do Katy Lied and Aja is beyond me. Man, I wish they would have done Can't Buy A Thrill and my favorite, Countdown To Ecstacy.
How is that Al Stewart? I know the tune "Year of the Cat" but the rest of it is unknown to me.
I collect the MFSL LP's myself Jack. They are gettin' pricey nowadays but not as pricey as the gold CD's. Ouch!
Take care.

Thanks DB,
I am pretty happy. Cleaned the Al Stewart last night and gave it a spin. Not a single fault on it.
I've got a few Al Stewart LP's including a local pressing of this which I've had since 1976 when it first came out! Suffice to say it's quite well worn as this LP is one of the few where I can say I like jsut about all the tracks. I think if you like accoustic/progressive soft rock stuff from the era and bands like Steely Dan, then it's worth a try.
Oh, I didn't know Katy Lied was the most valuable - I thought it was DSOTM. I just wanted to give it a try since I have Aja (not very interesting) and The Nightfly which I really like.
Yea, I think some of the prices they are asking on ebay are ridiculous  and can't see it being sustained in the long run.
How's your collection going - have you got them all? :)
I'm just picking various pieces as I go along - Mofi, Japanese, Shef Labs and othe imports. My intention is not have a huge collection - maybe just a couple of hundred of the music I like in the best quality pressings possible. I've culled a lot of records which I bought and only listened to once.
Hey, if I see the other two that you mentioned I'll pick them up!
cheers

Hi Jack,
I know....bet you've heard that alot.
Here's a link that was real helpful to me when I started collecting MFSL LP's and CD's.

Scroll down to the FAQ section for more details. Explains everything you ever wanted to know about MFSL.
My MFSL LP collection is quite small actually. It would seem that I have invested most of my money into the gold CD's. Here is what I got in LP's:
Pink Floyd - DSOTM (the first MFSL LP nearly everyone gets)
Queen - Night at the Opera
Poco - Legend
Alan Parsons Project - I Robot
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick, Aqualung and Broadsword and the Beast
I will check out Year of the Cat. You have me intrigued and I always did like that tune.
Take care

DB,
In case you don't already know - Alan Parsons was the producer on Year of the Cat and also Time Passages - the other Al Stewart Lp on Mofi. And yes, you can hear his influence especially when compared to other Al Stewart LP's without him. I Robot is a great album and I also like Eve.
Only have two of the Mofi CD's - The Wall and Sat Night Fever!:)
Jack
