All: I know we have some strong musicians on the forum and I'd like to get some advice from its collective knowledge. I have "played at" acoustic guitar for many years and am a mere dabbler, but one instrument that has always fascinated me is the pedal steel. Lloyd Maines of the Joe Ely Band for example, or Robert Randolph and the Family band these days, and about any wailin' song you can think of using it.
I want to start on the road to learning about it and eventually buying one and fiddling around on it. I know it is a tough instrument to learn and master, but you have to start somewhere. I'd even consider trading some audio gear for one <gasp>. Any thoughts and references would be very appreciated. Thanks.
