Went thrift store hopping today. After 12-13 years of being without a turntable I came home with The Mills Brothers "14 Karat Gold," Poco "A Good Feelin' to Know" and "Crazy Eyes," Mike Oldfield "Tubular Bells," and the Outlaws' self-titled album, all on vinyl. Total hit to my wallet: $12. Less than the price of one new or two used CDs. Half Price Books, Records and Tapes on North Lamar in Austin had three Delbert McClinton albums from the 1970s, all unopened, for $2.98 each. I passed because I'm not a huge Delbert fan, but I might go back in a day or two and pick them up just for the hell of it. Hard to go wrong at that price.
Now I need to start hanging out at the Turntables and Tapes forum. Where, oh where, is my long-lost Denon DP-45F when I need it again? Maybe I can find another Technics SL-1300 in good shape, if I take my time. Slap on a new cartridge and keep hunting for bargains.
