jcmjrt 04-11-2005, 09:09 PM I am the new owner of an MC-240 amp and Mx-110!
I picked up the MC-240 amp locally a few days ago and have successfully variaced it and yes, it is alive!! A few miniutes ago, I won an auction on e-bay for an MX-110 which is a local pickup so this week I should have a complete working very cool Mc outfit for a stereo. I bet I can make those Cornwalls sing, sing, sing. Now I just need more time to listen to tunes :D I'm working a job for the last week and next week or two that is paying good and is funding my buying spree. After that I should be back to my normal poor self but who cares??! I can listen to tunes in style.
...and I want to sayThank-You to Terry who has been generous with his time, experience, etc., regarding Mcs
CarlV 04-11-2005, 09:47 PM Congratulations! :)
Carl
rhkwon 04-11-2005, 10:00 PM Very nice and classic pickup! How much was the 240?
dewickt 04-11-2005, 11:32 PM You got the MX110 that you were stalking - I hope it hooks up and sounds like it should, you now have the best !!
WhiteSE 04-11-2005, 11:36 PM Man, there is nothing like siting in the dark and just watching some Mc gear runnin....Your not only listening to music, but your keeping history alive!
snapshotjc 04-12-2005, 08:11 AM Congrats man!
I can't get back into tubes yet due to poor cash flow, but I can sure second the "Thank You" to Terry for his wonderful help and repairs of my MC 2105, MR 74, and soon my MA 6100! He is a wonderful, helpful addition to this forum and to McIntosh owners and wanna-be's too! It is so nice to deal with someone who gives of his time so freely and always posting help to those who ask; neat to have someone who loves and uses Mc gear himself here, can't say enough about his excellent repair work at such resonable prices too!
WhiteSE 04-12-2005, 08:13 AM And he likes cats!!!
:thmbsp: :smoke:
dewickt 04-12-2005, 08:41 AM #5 just got adopted into the house, about 6 month old, wild outside boy, was the only one who would let me touch him, now after 1 week it's like he as always been here.
pathologymd 04-12-2005, 08:52 AM Good for you Terry! I know your other cats from your website, what's the new boy's name?
William
Holst 04-12-2005, 10:04 AM Cat's naturally have wonderful taste in music and no doubt gather outside everytime Terry's fires up those Mc's
jcmjrt 04-12-2005, 10:15 AM I think that I got a pretty fair price on the MC-240 - $1000. The chrome top is fairly rusty but the sides are good and the cage is really nice...and it works! The transformers are scratched but I figure a little paint and it's good. The Mx-110 looks like it should be very clean. I don't have it yet so we'll see. I picked it up for the reserve price. I will admit that part of the Mcintosh allure for me is the sexy looks. There may be other pieces of gear that sound better (maybe) but nothing looks like the Mcs.
Anyone who likes Mcs and animals has to be alright :thmbsp: I'm more of a dog person - three of them right now - but cats are cool too. I have a friend who has two dogs and 5 cats so she keeps pretty busy...and vacuums regularly!
bill irvin 04-12-2005, 10:26 AM call him cool cat
radioactive 04-12-2005, 10:30 AM im a little late to respond but none the less congardulations on the mc240 and mx110.theres nothing like jumping in with both feet :D with the mc gear.it took me yrs to get where i am with my mcintosh setup and im very pleased with it.i too recently received a mx110 and i can assure you if yours arrives operating properly youll like it. :thmbsp: those cornwalls ought to sound great with the 240.

Holst 04-12-2005, 10:39 AM We expect a review.
dewickt 04-12-2005, 11:38 AM Small mustache and little beady eyes = Adolf
Count is now 2 dogs, 5 cats, 10 pieces of McIntosh.
Holst 04-12-2005, 12:30 PM 8 cat's, three horses, one dog, one McIntosh.. OK, how do you score this and who wins?
jcmjrt 04-12-2005, 12:36 PM Holst,
If it's by the pound, you win
Holst 04-12-2005, 12:53 PM I don't know, some of those Mc tube units are pretty heavy. And the Mc's and the horses don't try to sleep on the couch when I'm gone.

LOL... :lmao:
foetusized 04-12-2005, 09:06 PM Yup, that's Adolph. Met him the two times I was at Terry's place. He was still in the "hiding under the car" stage at the time.
When I was a kid I had a goldfish named Adolf. You guessed it, he had a black stripe above his mouth -- Foe
jcmjrt 04-13-2005, 10:26 AM The people who sold me the MX-110 have a storefront that they man on the weekends. They take credit cards and will set it up to play before I take it and will give a 6 month warranty on it. That all sounds good. I'm looking forward to seeing what else they have in their shop. The down part is paying sales tax but I'm really glad not to have to deal with wondering about what the item really is before paying for it and worrying about what the shippers will do to it in transit. These heavy items don't always fair so well in transit. These Mc units probably won't see a lot of work done on them immediately but I've got a rebuild Fisher and Scott...and my eyes aren't what they used to be. I picked up a nice magnifier lamp so I can actually see what I'm soldering/desoldering! :smoke:

Hey, Terry, if you lived in Wisconsin, you soon won't have to worry about stray cats. Guess anyone that wants can shoot them, including housepets that aren't on your own property. That seems kind of messed up to me, and I'm a hunter/gun owner myself
WhiteSE 04-13-2005, 11:49 AM I tihnk they say that if they have a collar, you cant shoot them...
I would throw MC40's across someone's skull if I saw them shooting something they dont intend on eating! :twak:

Wow, that's fugged up Cleve! What's going on up there, too much cheese eating? Although I wish we had open season on bad drivers down here in FL who come down here to visit; they seem to leave their common sense at home when they're down here; but shooting cats is just wrong! Real wrong IMNSHO!
Holst 04-13-2005, 12:27 PM The world would be a better place if we were all issued an MX 110 like jcmjrt's and a cat.
jcmjrt 04-13-2005, 05:02 PM ...and a dog

Audible Nectar 04-14-2005, 07:21 AM "And an MC 240"
30's aren't bad either......then you get two macs
But does that mean you then get two cats?
Congrats on the setup.....you are gonna like this :thmbsp:
centaurus3200 04-16-2005, 02:03 PM congrats on your new gear!
everything else seems to go by the wasteside when you buy vintage mac gear. i used to have lots of amps. fisher sa300, HK citation V, citation II preamp, dyna MKII (still have), st70, fisher 400, fisher 500s, can't remember all the rest.
then got a mc225, then 240, then finally my MC60s. have them running through restored and modded (swan TN28 top mount tweeters) Bozak 302A urbans. sold almost evrything else. no reason to have a bunch of amps if you only listen to you McIntosh gear ;-)
see ya,
Robby
gonzp 04-16-2005, 06:36 PM Congrats jc your corn's are going to love this combo. You know what they say about Klipsch junk in, junk out quality in, quality out :thmbsp: :thmbsp:

Ya' baby. I picked up the mx-110 today and it looks as good in person as it did in the pics...and it sounds as good too. They said that they aligned the FM,etc., but after hearing it, I believe it. D*mn that gear that gears sounds so good and is sexy too! This place was very cool with vintage gear everywhere - stacked. I listened to my Mx-110 playing jazz through some magnepans. Very cool. They had an integrated hybrid Mc amp just a couple of pieces over which looked really cool- MA230(?) as I remember. It was fun going there. Anyone in the bay might want to consider taking a look. It's The Soundwell in Berkeley at 1718 University Ave and a cool electronics shop is just a couple of spot over on 1734...Lasher's Electronics.
Holst 04-17-2005, 11:53 AM I found their website www.thesoundwell.com/ and they are now bookmarked.
Now jcmjrt, this begs questions and leads to observations.
You have now climbed the pinnacle of sound reproduction. No one here will argue that. We are alternately happy for you and green with envy. Some are green with being happy for you, that's their own problem.
Observation. You have a great sound system and it's decades old and not 6.1 channels. And there seems to be a lot of that around.
Makes you wonder where exactly great audio reproduction began doesn't it. And have the great bulk of audio company/stores turned their backs on the love of music.
Question, are you going to settle down or be like so many of our ilk and be on an eternal quest for more and better equipment? We audio fold are hunter/gatherers always looking for greener grazing, or at least more of that good feeling.
Was there a pet store attached to the Sound Well? If not I have leads on two puppies and a pregnant cat.
You said in the first post that you we going back to being your normal poor self. With all the music in the world at your command with the push of a button, how can you consider yourself anything but rich.
CarlV 04-17-2005, 12:05 PM electronics shop is just a couple of spot over on 1734...Lasher's Electronics.
They have brown generic feet that are of the right size for 20 cents a pop.
Been using those places for decades. Bought one of my MX110's at the Soundwell.

I'll probably leave the living room/main stereo unit pretty much alone for quite a while - Mcintosh MX-110, Mcintosh MC-240, Klipsch Cornwalls. But the reality is that I want to put a small unit into the computer room/study and that may be an ever changing parade of tube gear/cool smaller speakers...like Fisher 500, Scott 210, KLH Model 5, Klipsch Heresy, etc., I'll probably have to sell/barter one to get another but then that could be part of the fun too. Although I will admit to having trouble selling items that I love and enjoy.
If there was one problem with the soundwell, it was that they didn't seem to have a store mascot - cat or dog, etc., I'll have to mention that mcintoshes and animals do seem to go together.
Rich in music is definitely pretty cool! :smoke:
jcmjrt 04-17-2005, 01:34 PM Carl, any other bastions of good audio gear around here that you know of? It's fun just to look and listen.
CarlV 04-17-2005, 02:44 PM There is a real nice place out in Lafeyette I've heard of but never been to. Of course there are some in SF proper but I seem to just hit The House Of Music.
17 minute drive if the bridge is clear.
Carl
jcmjrt 04-17-2005, 04:33 PM Well, I guess I'll have to check out House of Music one of these days - especially since they're a Mc dealer. Do you know the name of the place in Lafayette? That's not so far away...and no bridges to cross to get there.
CarlV 04-18-2005, 09:42 AM Do you know the name of the place in Lafayette?
Sorry, I don't remember. There are enough here from the area maybe someone would know.
