The 200 series is the entry level on Yamaha receivers, nice but nothing too fancy or powerful. The x40 series, apart from the top 2040, was a step down from earlier models in many ways such as the use of now unrepairable or replaceable parts in the power amp section. Anything goes wrong and you have a doorstop.

I can't give you a firm price but unless it was very cheap, maybe under $25, and in good shape I would look for a more desirable Yamaha. There are plenty of other interesting ones worth owning.

I have a CR-240 that had distortion in one channel, recapping did not take it away and it was in the power amp module. After some research I concluded that the STK078G was rebadged as the IG03000 Yamaha part. A new module is arriving toady from B&D so we shall see if I am correct.

As an aside I once had one driving a pair of original Advents, did a reasonable job but then I don't like over loud music.

^ [ Thanks for sharing the module info....merrylander. I also have a DOA CR-240 in the wings - relay clicks but no sound. ]

To the OP, unless it's in mint condition and has all the factory literature and packaging, I suspect a CR-240 wouldn't command more than $40 tops. As Raynald mentioned there's other Yammies you could acquire for a little bump in coin.

So it looks good, the internal schematic matches the one in the Yamaha Service Manual. We will know better when I get a chance to install it.

Well I soldered the STK078G in place, plugged the 240 in and after about 4 seconds the protection relay clicked in. Hooked on an antenna and speakers and got stereo, so it looks like the STK078G is a good sub for the IG03000.

Do you have the service manual for the CR-240? I can't seem to find one online.
