After reviewing the list it obvious to me that my music tastes are not in agreement with the masses. Of the albums I have that make the list I could probably list 100 albums I prefer over any of them. 16 of the artists I have songs of theirs in my collection that are probably from the albums listed. But I have to conclude the masses are musically deprived. :smoke:
Albums on the list I have/had in my collection:
5. Pink Floyd-DSOTM
9. Guns & Roses- Appetite for Destruction
19. Jimi Hendrix- Are You Experienced
40. Black Sabbath- Paranoid
65. The Police- Synchronicity
71. Kraftwerk- Trans Europe Express

Artists songs I have whose albums make the list:
U2,Pink Floyd,Madonna,Guns & Roses, Beatles, R.E.M.,Alanis Morissette,Led Zepplin,Jimi Hendrix,The Doors,Duran Duran,The Police,Black Sabbath,Kraftwerk,Neil Young and the Eagles.

Very few of my top 100 would be on most folks list. To me - that's a good thing. :D

Well, a goodly portion of the so-called 'Top 100' is in my collection, but I wouldn't say that it is in MY Top 100. I guess musical tastes broaden, with age, just like waistlines. The more one likes music, the more music one likes.

I feel like I'm missing something here. Who's list of 100 greatest albums is this about? Can someone give a link? -- Foe

...remember that P.T. Barnum once said "nobody ever went broke over-estimating the poor taste of the American public."

Actually, H.L. Mencken said it about P.T. Barnum, and the correct quote is "No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public." This was, of course, before the USFL or whatever football league ABC tried to foist upon us a few years ago.

As for "O.K. Computer" being the best album of all time, I guess Mencken's saying applied to the Brits as well. It's an OK album, but I'd rather listen to Sopwith Camel's "The Miraculous Hump Returns From the Moon" any time.

i stand corrected, i've been misusing that quote for years. H.L Mencken was quite a critic as well as one of Hunter Thompson's prime influences....

So it was a British poll....

Here's what I own off the list:
1. RADIOHEAD - OK Computer
2. U2 - The Joshua Tree
3. NIRVANA - Nevermind (mail order in transit)
6. OASIS - Definitely Maybe
7. THE BEATLES - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
11. R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
15. OASIS - (What's the Story) Morning Glory
16. ALANIS MORISSETTE - Jagged Little Pill
18. THE VERVE - Urban Hymns
20. THE SMITHS - The Queen Is Dead
22. RADIOHEAD - The Bends
31. SEX PISTOLS - Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols
34. JOY DIVISION - Closer
36. BLUR - Parklife
41. THE SPECIALS - Specials
44. THE CLASH - London Calling
45. THE PRODIGY - The Fat of the Land
46. THE VELVET UNDERGROUND - The Velvet Underground and Nico
70. PULP - Different Class
71. KRAFTWERK - Trans-Europe Express
82. JOHN COLTRANE - A Love Supreme
89. THE STROKES - Is this It
90. MADNESS - One Step Beyond...
I also have James Brown's "Sex Machine" on a 7" (part 1 on the A and part 2 on the B)

I'm something of an anglophile as far as music, so I prob'ly match up with the list better than many Americans. That, and the fact I have so bloody many CDs.

Pulp should definitely have been rated higher than Oasis or Blur, IMHO -- Foe

ANY top 100 list that has Dexy's Midnight Runners, Bjork, Madonna and George Michael cannot be taken seriously. Who the hell wrote that list?

Agreed. Well, except for Bjork, she is pretty amazing. Even if you're not into her music, she's an amazing artist. I was heavily introduced to her a few years ago and have really grown to enjoy her and her creativity.

Neat to see the Strokes there, but, uh, did someone forget that Sticky Fingers is a pretty outrageously impressive bit of work? Need some more Beatles in there as well.

Bjork always reminds me of one of those girls I dated in college that would go to a store,or other public places and just sit crosslegged on the floor.I think her radio is tuned to a different station than the rest of the human race.

True enough, she has her own way. But creatively, I think she's quite impressive.

Agreed. She did Icelands' contribution to the millenium celebration thing on pbs and it was both very cool and very strange.
