This is in the featured section of eBays reel to reel music so it's hard not to see it. When it first appeared I said to myself that it would probably go for a good price...

hmm, I bet it'll go for a sh*tload. Whoever gets it can make copies from the original and sell them on ebay. I've noticed people do this a lot with bootlegs. Get one on vinyl and sell a HUGE amount of homemade CDs created from them. Its not a halfbad idea. Afterall, I'd like to know whats on the interview.

I'm sceptical - why is this being offered on eBay? It would seem more appropriate to sell it through Christie's or other auction house that would be able to validate the tape. According to the seller, the journalist just tucked this tape away for 37 years?

I have it on good word that it is a legit tape. It was an interview made by a freelancer for the New England Scene magazine (or newspaper) for an article, but wasn't used in print. I know of serious Jimi collectors who are going after the tape. Supposedly EH (Experience Hendrix) offered a few thousand dollars for it, but the owner wants more. The audio is reportedly excellent.

If the bidding doesn't go high enough, the owner can always pull the item off.

I've been watching it, too. It was over $1,000 the last time I checked. I'm guessing either somebody made him an offer he couldn't refuse and he sold it, or else he got scared that it wasn't going as high as he'd hoped, or maybe there was something fishy with the whole thing... :scratch2:

The inside word is that the owner is looking for $25,000.
EH supposedly offered him $5K.

Hmmm...just like that Hendrix guitar amp/head that was on sale and then later pulled.

If this "Hendrix Interview" tape was for real a legit source would certainly pay a lot for it. Imagine Rolling Stone being offered this, or Playboy for that matter. This whole thing reeks of scam, and the guy might of got scared off by the prospect of a felony rap.

No, the tape is legit. I know of someone who listened to it. The owner was probably trying to see if you could get more than EH offered.

Last I looked the bid was $1033, quite a bit but not maybe as much as he hoped. Or he might have sold it off eBay..or who knows?

I guess anything can turn up on eBay

Mark Cuban bought a jet on eBay for something like 30 million. I think he did it just for the "cachet" of having made such a huge purchase on eBay. When I trust a seller (store) that I find on eBay, I will buy through their website if they've got one.

nitrous - I will defer to you on the tape being legit.
