For family time DVD video viewing I put together a little system comprised of Altec 604-8H speakers, a couple Toshiba DVD's, RCA sound stage expander/equalizer, and a MAC1700 tube hybrid receiver, nothing huge but excellent quality sound at moderate levels!!

Does using the ribbons tame those horns? I once used a Jensen PL15LL in a folded horn with a pair of JanZen Stats for a center channel. It was pretty amazing. Not really what you are doing here but some things you just have to hear. Like 604s with ribbons.

I guess you just have to ask, "What would Thunder Bob do?" Well he would add more Altec speakers.

The 604-8H's are so much tamer than my 604-8G's that they don't need any help there, just a little extra boost at the very upper range. The ribbouns are only 94db sensitivity so they don't add much more than some off axis response in the highs for when I'm working on my computer, it's right to the left of the left speaker. I have a 2.2mfd cap on them so they're crossing over at a pretty high frequency. It's nice just to play around with this stuff, trying different combinations is fun, I had a Mantaray with a Zomax in there before and it sounded pretty cool!!

Are those Hi-Vis or some silver flute variation? I have been playing around with Jack's Audax 15" coaxes and using the silver flutes in combo with them has resulted in some very good sound.

Those ribbons are just cheapo's from PE, the 94db sensitivity just doesn't keep up with the 604's which are closer to 99db, they do sound cool though, Dave. :scratch2:

I made it to 7 so far, one 604C, three 604-8G, two 604-8H, and one 604-8K for restoration, all the others are perfect, Dave.

OK, OK, OK, I LIED!! Did Mid-Michigan hear Altec sounds originating in SouthEast Michigan?? Anything less than the db's of 6 of my A7's playing at once is considered moderate in my book!! Dave.
