This guy's theater cost more than my house. Like I've always said, "It only cost money."

Impressive, but not a fan of the gold leaf trim everywhere. That ceiling alone most have cost 10K

Why even call it Home Theatre... just call it Theatre with a HOME in it!!!!
Man, am I ever envious!

Well, I have to say that I'm disappointed - all I saw was a microwave, where's the real popcorn maker? :)

with all that attention to detail i would think he could do a better job of trimming his nails.

I could do without all the gold trimming also. I like the marble look columns and the red curtains give it that classic theater look. Instead of the airbrush clouds I would have opted on a way to project them on the dome and have them actually move across the dome like a screen. Sorta like that overhead moving sign fixture in Vegas. But if I bought the house its in I would not complain! What do you think the final price tag on this project was? We do not even get a good look at the gear! :(

i would be suprised if he put as much effort into selecting gear as he did with the decor.
of course this is all sour grapes on my part. i would do it differently for sure.

At the top of his page you can check out the gear by clicking on the equipment link. Once there if you click on the equipment manufacturer you go right to the piece of gear he has in his theater.
Well I checked again and some of those links dont work anymore, sorry about that fellows. :dunno:

I had the same thought - I think he spent more on decor than on equipment - I'm thinking those 12 recliners alone set him back $25-30k or more. For that kinda cash, we're talking big commercial JBL or Klipsch Theater speakers, and a monster SVS subwoofer thrown in.

I do not think he took any price breaks on the equipment.
http://theater.stevejenkins.com/equipment/
He probably could have bought a CRT projector for much more money, but he has an Xbox and the DLP does not suffer burn-in. I am not seeing much missing from his list. He still needs to replace his PSHD105 HDTV/Sat Receiver with an HDTivo. That would have made my list before a lot of his other stuff. Also the fridge is too small!
I could live in there, otherwise!

I can buy what looks like the same theater seats, leather for under a grand per row so 4 rows would be under 5,000. . . The ELITE dealer I bought my VSX56TXi from sells these seats, not junk, real leather or better, cloth or whatever. . . Much nicer than my Lazy-Boy. . . I was amazed at how low the price was. . . I was expecting big bucks. . . still big bucks to me.
He had a three seater that I almost bought for 899.00. . . drink holders, recline, etc. .,

That is a great list of stuff! I still do not believe he cut costs on the equipment. The Bob Carver brand is not cheap, but I admit I have never heard of the James Loudspeakers that he has in his system.
Therefore, I do agree that you have a better setup for stereo sound. Although, his setup may be better for a movie system, since I do not see surrounds on your list.
Has anyone heard of James Loudpseakers?

I found that surrounds are a waste 99% of the time.

I found that surrounds are a waste 99% of the time. Then you apparently do not watch very many action movies. Private Ryan, for example, is a much, much better experience with surrounds. Also, many SACDs are recorded in surround formats. LAGQ, for example, would not be worthwhile without surround speakers.

That is were the difference of opinion comes in. I find when your front and center setup is at a high enough point that the surrounds become non existent. If my room was double the size then I might get a better experience from the surrounds.

:lmao: A tad ornate for my taste and it all likely cost as much as the last 10 generations of my family grossed in our lifetimes. What the hell ...You can't take it with you!
An amasing setup!

Ok, some of you have hinted at this, but I'll come out and say it. That's just tacky!
For any of you Colorado folks- is that the Casa Bonita of home theater or what?

This guy has been featured in a few stereo magazines. He spent a ton o money on the room and acoustics, but his equipment, while in no way inferior, does not "measure" up to the scale of the room. The only 2 pieces of equipment that are worth their weight are the Carver pre and amp. I've owned both of these units myself, they are very nice, but for that amount there are better brands. Personally I stepped up from the Carver Theater Grand to the Krell Showcase and it was a total change in quality - for the better. Tha amp is nice. But the Marantz projector is a low end model, as is the CD/DVD player. The James brand speakers are good, but because they are in-wall types, they do not have the dynamic range of floor models - and they cost too much too. The rest of the stuff is just "patch-up" stuff. The room is awesome, if not too much over the top. But it's still his room and I know we would all love to have it.
Privateer, if you are looking to recreate the theater experience in your home, surround speakers are a must. Surround information is ALWAYS present in the rear channels, but only to varying degrees. These varying degrees is what makes the difference between "watching" a movie and being "transported" into the movie. You can, however, have your own opinion if you don't like surround sound, but if you want accurate sound the way the movie maker intended, then surround speakers are a must.

Personal sense of etiquette set aside...the room itself is a quality assembly of fine craftsmanship. I will agree, the audio gear leaves something to be desired(as far as sources go), but it is probably an encompassing experience to view/hear/feel a film within those walls.

That is a cool cieling, though. I would love to do that for my son's bedroom - he loves stars and moons. But yeah, the craftmenship is outstanding. It's a "real" home theater. I wish a had just a room dedicated to my gear, this guy has columns! COLUMNS!!!!! And stars on his CIELING!!!! Nice! :thmbsp:

Privateer, without rear surrounds, you can't hear missles whooshing towards the screen from behind your head. If you've ever heard the opening scene of "Outbreak" with and without rear surrounds, then you will know what the real difference is.
And anybody knocking this temple is just sour grapes
I don't care if it IS a little gaudy..and that I would do it completely different, it's the coolest thing and I would give my right arm to have something as cool as that in my house...I would never leave. Just give me 10 replacement bulbs for the PJ, a phone so I can order Chinese and send someone to pick up the body when I start to stink.

Maybe it is my brain, I see a 2D image on the TV so if I add 3D sound to the room it does not sync up with my thought process/hearing? I do have a pair of Martin Logan Aeon i's sitting around maybe I will put them into the system and see how it works out.

Give it a shot. Even if your room is small, I think you will be surprised. The first ever surround setup I heard had Magnepans as the rears and it was amazing.
