Found this poor mutt at a yard sale one street over from me. Looks like whoever owned it had gorillas for roadies. :D Rough, but it's all more or less there, and after a deoxit bath, it kicks booty. :D

Tubes are 5AR4 rectifier, two 12AX7's, a 7199 driver/PI, and a pair of 7027 outputs. One of the 12AX7's is a flat-plate Telefunken! Whoda thunkit, in an old bass amp. I can't get the back off the speaker chamber yet as the screws are wierd "clutch-head" screws and I have to get a driver for them. Seems to be a 2x12 config tho, unusual but not unheard of for bass...actually, bassists are starting to dig 12's again (heck, my little solid-state Ampeg BA-112 is a 50-watt 1x12 that kicks patootie!).

Anyway, I guess I did OK for $10. Going to schlep it to church in the morning for my Sunday gig...see what she does. Been cranking it in the basement, holding together nicely. Guitar sounds great through it, too.

Here's the chassis. Poor mutt...probably hasn't been stored in the best of places. Sure sounds good though...

Looks alot better than some of the amps I've found. Good score.

The more I play it, the tighter and more "there" it's getting. I'd love to hear what the amp itself can do through 15's, but I have no 15 cabs around. Word is the B-25 heads rock through 15's (they were available as a head, and apparently that config was much more popular than the combo.)

Good deal man! Congratulations!
Geez, ten bucks! Unbelievable!
I've recently picked a couple of 15" Altec 418B speakers that I want to find a cabinet for.
Doing some research on the net I found that Carvin had them in a couple of their cabs in the early 70's
Also Acoustic Control Corp. used inem in a few cabs.
Read rumours about their use in Sunn cabs though I haven't been able to find if that's true.
What kind of speakers are in the cab?

yeah i've seen a pair in an acoustic cab, they sound pretty sweet.

Woohoo....used it at church today. I was playing in the VIdeo Cafe for 4 services...it's an edgier service that meets in the church's multipurpose gym (carpeted floor, some acoustic treatment). I wasn't put through the house system at all, and the soundguy said it filled out nicely and carried fine. Up on stage I was getting the best tone I've ever gotten in that room. Best $10 I ever spent, I think! :D Glad I got that thing, it's the best bass amp I've ever owned.

As for the speakers, I haven't gotten the right screwdriver to open the cab, so until I do... :( Gotta wonder why companies use goofball fasteners....whatever it has, they have silver dustcaps. They sound good with guitar too, I'm thinking of revoicing the Channel 1 tone stack for guitar and leaving Channel 2 for bass.

If you really want to hear something cool, score a really cheesy old Univox 15" cab for another $10 at a garage sale and try it with that tube head of yours. Especially good for feedback on harmonics (yes this can be done on bass as well as guitar) just play with the tone controls to get a nice sound. My Ampeg B-15 head was modded to have a Fender output stage. And the two preamp channels are changed to be in SERIES for killer overdrive and doulble tone control amounts. Try that you soldering iron jockeys. And to hell with collectors of "original condition" amps, these babies are just begging to be played with inside.
By the way this cheapie cabinet trick is just as nice with an old Fender Bassman head.

Great find on the B25. Old Ampegs rock! I have an old B-18X portaflex that belonged to my old guitar teacher. I've only ever seen one other example that was really trashed. Mine is missing the dolly and the little plexi-logo, but it still sounds amazing. I use it mainly for bass. If I had an accordion, I'd plug it into the accordion jack and really annoy the neighbors.
