Ok, so I have sitting here an old Channelmaster tube intergrated amplifier that needs to be refurbed.

I also have sitting here a matched quad set of new Golden Dragon EL84 tubes. Beside them is a new Golden Dragon 5AR4 rectifier tube. I have a pair of JJ Electronic 50µF x 50µF / 500V can-type capacitors on their way as well.

Now my question is should I spend the time and money on refurbing the Channelmaster or use the stuff I have here, including parts from the Channelmaster (5 12AX7 tubes from various manufacturers and such), to build my own.

If I do decide to refurb the Channelmaster, since it is so old, I should replace all the caps correct?

Does anyone know of a decent DIY design out there that utilizes the tubes I already have?

If the Channelmaster isn't rusted out and uses the tubes you mentioned I would do a refurb. Not familier with Channelmaster but rule of thumb is to replace caps, bias resisters, diodes, clean pots and switches, that kind of stuff. Most vintage had a phono stage if it was integrated so that could be a plus.

New quality RCA plugs and binding posts are a good thing to do, but can wait on the rest.

Were it mine, I would re-hab it.

Fourth vote for refurb! Would that be the 6600 model by any chance?... I just happen to have the Sams folder within reach...

Yes it is, I would LOVE to get some info on this piece. I know nothing of it really.

I'll send you a scan - it may take a few days, as my scanner has been flakey lately. Email tbavis(at)rochester(dot)rr(dot)com.
