View Full Version : Hey look... it's not ALL vintage chat
When this new forum took form I was excited and as I looked over the mechanics and features found it to be quite user-friendly. Noticing that a Tube Forum was carried over from AU I only hoped that it would be better received than the weak participation seen there. Seemed like only a few of us were talking amongst ourselves. When I began moderating the Tube Forum I felt a greater urgency to make it better. I asked friends to stop on over and check US out in addition to advertising on other tube boards. While we pail in numbers to the all mighty Vintage Forum our numbers are drastically up from the old board. In just a few weeks we are well on our way to eclipsing participation on AU. And the numbers are more evenly spread on all the forums - a good sign. So thanks for stopping in at Tubes and hope more regulars and newbies come on by!

Mike,
you know what the difference is compared to AU?
It's because the users really OWN the forums now.
Just like you said, when you became moderator of "Tubes" you felt you needed to go the extra distance to make it a success ... and its starting to work.
Back at AU, Norb (the admin/moderator/promotor/dishwasher) essentially left the site and it slowly ran down despite the lively vintage forum there.
Here the admins are from our own, the mods are from our own, and everyone gets along just great ... and there seems to be a few more regs around here as well ... I think Kama has done a fantastic job and he should be warmly congratulated ... :)

The great part about audiokarma is that it is becoming exactly what I envisioned it to be.....the best audio (and video) discusion on the net, through your efforts. You only have to take one look at the messes going on at AA and audioannex, as well as the lack of maintenance of AU, to know that we've not only got the most user-friendly software, but we've got the best quality of membership here :)
Walt is absolutely right.....this is OUR board, it belongs to all of us. The modrators a site has make it great, and all of you who are moderators are doing a great job with your forums, promoting traffic to the site and stimulating discussion is what it's all about. As we grow we can also add new forums for the interests of our people here that wish to moderate them (i.e. vintage television and tube audio, which both have excellent followings), so now that we're rolling and things are going strong, I'll continue to try to make things even better.....the bumps in the road are long gone and smooth sailing ahead.
Thanks people! :)

I've had a great time here so far. I like the facto that it's a community and not a board where one only posts, and you are subject to the moderators excess of apprehension or boards that are completely troll ridden such as AR.
I feel right at home here

Here, Here MikE! I would love to see the tube forum take off with lively informative chat. I am glad someone like you with the higher end of the chain tube gear, is the Moderator here. I will always be throwing in what two cents I know and of course anyone mentioning tubes to me will be directed here for fun or information.
AU was a comfortable place but it was getting rather stale. I look forward to the growth and lively new chat here! :)
Walt, I agree with you, and others that AU and now AK have the most friendly group of people (I know of) on the net. One of the differences here is that no one takes themselves too seriously. Even in our small circle we have different ideas on how to approach and apply our passion, and when we do inevitably butt heads we just laugh it off. Being a long standing Inmate on AA, I think that is one of the principal reasons for the rancor we see there now; guys too busier making THEIR point to have time to listen to the thoughts of others. What a shame, because there are so many knowledgeable people there, and many good people too. It just takes a few to tip over the apple cart.
I agree Tim has done / is doing a WONDERFUL job of administrating the site! Look forward to future developments.
ckelly, one of the reasons I asked to moderate the Tube Forum was because of the quality of people here. I don't need another baby to watch over. I have my own children to look after! From where I stand, there should be no need from ANY moderating. The users police themselves. In fact, no one even posts remarks that would need addressing by anyone; Admin, Mod or regular.
WW, we've had our share of discussion, and while I look forward to more of the same lets hope more of "US" join in. Tubes RULE!

MIke, I enjoyed your enthusiasm when you came on to the AU site. I'm a 'vintage' guy cause I'm a lazy ol' guy, and not the most adept anymore (or for some time) fiddlin' with precious breakables.
I have been happy to see more 'faces' here at the 'Karma than there were at AU, and many have brought a wealth of experience, knowledge, and their joy of a great hobby.
I grew up with tubes in just about everything, and the neighborhood grocery carried a large assortment of replacement tubes! Guess who got sent to the store to get the replacement? Yours truly, since I was the youngest.
Now I have some very nice MOSFET amps, and they have a very nice, "almost tube-like" sound, without any lack of the very highest frequencies (to partially quote one reviewer).
I congratulate Kama-K, and all of y'all who have taken up the chore of keeping this beautiful new site the joy it is to visit!
THANKS, guys!
Glad you found something beneficial about my contributions. I've made many friends through the various sites I visit. AK is quickly moving up my list of favorites. I still feel a bit of an outsider here but no matter, I didn't fit in at AR either. I'm most home at AA but that place can be a bit impersonal, even with all the contacts I have there. It's much friendlier here even when I get teased for the degree I pursue my passion. You were a "tube runner", damn I'd do that job for N/C. Sorry I don't go that far back, but our first stereo / TV had tubes. I remember the repairman replacing them.

I for one am very glad to have you a part of our site! I htink that you have found many kindred spirits here, people that weren't on AU or AA have come aboard here on AK, adding fresh blood to the forum discussions that have taken place on various sites.
When I was on AU, I never participated in anything but vintage, really....and I must say that I'm learning a lot from everyone here. And perhaps discovering a new end of the hobby :)

I too am enjoying the other forums, it is nice that you can bounce around in here and see everyone enjoying all the different aspects of the different areas. I've heard that the new music forum is really happenin' :D
