Jack ... you own a Luxman from this era don't you? From what I understand they are very good build quality and this one looks like it is in good nick (electronics fixed up etc).

How do you like them? What is their sound character? does it "punch above" its rated 35-50W rating?

Often called the Japanese McIntosh. For good reason. VERY conservative, very good build quality. Gear to get.

I owned 2 Luxman receivers. I didn't like the way they were made. They performed well, yet the construction left something to be desired. I would put the construction on par with Technics of the time. Just seemed flimsy. And the lighting was horrible. They uses (2) tiny 12v bulbs to light the entire face of the dial. And I have never seen exact replacements for those bulbs.

Just my 2 cents

Hey Buzz ...

Its an amp, so no lights to worry about.

Maybe soemone else can relate their Luxman amp experiences. I've certainly never heard anything bad about them, Pete always says they're good, Jack owns one (What do you think Jack?) ...

I've asked the seller for some more info ... shipping costs etc etc. I'm very keen especially if I can get it for < AUD $300 (maybe wishful thinking?).

Hi Walt,

My luxman is a bit more recent, maybe around 1978. Actually it was three pieces, the L2 integrated, T1 tuner, and K5A casette. They were just begging to be sniped and I couldn't resist as the seller was in Melbourne. Got them about two months ago and to be honest haven't played them that much as there's been a lot going on. Still a bit of cleaning to do as well on these...

As Pete said the Mac of the east! Very well built and I would say a bit undervalued in the ebay world. Sound is very smooth and a leans a bit more to the "bright" side. IMO partners very well with warm sounding speakers. I have hear them with JR's before and they sound good with my Missions too. Yet to try them with the KEF's. But this is the L2 and I have no idea how the L30 sounds or what to expect. There's a Luxman appreciation site somewhere but I can't find the link...

I don't play loud but the L2 has no problems driiving the speakers I have tried.

Gee, if you were in Melbourne, I would say come on over and borrow mine for a while to see if you like it!

This one does look very nice...

Jack

Did you build the rack for it yourself?

Nice looking gear - I like the nice wooden case on the one I am looking at.

I can only share my experiance with one peice of Luxman gear. It is the model T-02 digital tuner. This model also sold in europe as the model T-530. This is an early to mid 80s digital tuner that still had the silver front plate.

From it's performance and specifications and circuits from the service manual and can state that this is one high end tuner that also looks great. It should not be confused with the 70s Luxman model T-2 (no leading zero) that was a total analog job. Anyway my first exposure to Luxman is very positive and I recommend you don't pass on any good deals on this brand.

The Luxman L30,yes I remember it well. The very first piece of serious equipment I bought.$425Cdn. I loved everything about it.
I was talked into trading it in for a 1030. I'm sure the L30 ended up at the salesman's house. The receiver never really did it for me.
However, in my modest collection now I do have a L707II that I know very little about. That picture brought a flood of memories. I miss it.
