Some of you guys might find this interesting..

At the auction house for tomorrow morning :

1. Acetate master of White album with signed notes by George Martin and bunch of Beatles CD's. I asked the guy for an estimate and he said A$7K!!
2. Mint boxed set "From Liverpool" - UK pressing
3. White album - very well worn condition - UK pressing, I think.
4. Coloured vinyl Sgt Peppers - Aussie pressing but mint.

Have to forget about the acetate - but I might just go along to have a look!:)

If anyone thinks the acetate is undervalued - let me know! just kidding.

Jack - taking orders, cash in advance !!:p:

Jack: have you been on the site www.stevehoffman.tv ?
The Discussion Forums there are filled with lotsa other hi fi sound fanatics and the Fab Four are always a popular topic of discussion. As you may know Steve H is the actual engineer who does the remastering on those DCC discs. Those that are now OOP go for big bucks like Jethro Tull's "Stand Up" & Ringo's "Ringo".

Hi Fred,

Steve H didn't do Tull's "Stand Up". He did "Aqualung" and "Original Masters". Andy Johns at MFSL did "Stand Up".

I see Mr. Hoffman has registered here. Apparantly he dabbles in classic TV's also. I have frequented his forum many times. Very knowledgable people there. I find it quite interesting reading. Once in awhile I find a reason to post but it's not very often. I just tend to lurk.

Take care Fred. It's nice to see ya here.

Jack,

It doesn't surprise me to see that acetate sell for those big bucks. Acetates are prized by collectors and a signed Beatles acetate to boot. I would love to get ahold of some Tull acetates. So few are available though. The cost would kill me anyway.

Sgt. Pepper LP pic disc is quite common. Are you referring to the same thing or is it a solid color vinyl? I'm not sure what the Aussie pressing looks like.

Take care.

Hi DB- Thanks for the clarification. Nice to hear from you as well, its rather interesting how many vintage hi fi models we both have that are the same ones. Kindve reminds me of the parallel universe episode I saw earlier today on tv- Twilight Zone marathon:) (doo doo, doo doo- doo doo, doo doo....)

Fred,

Thanks for the link. I used to have a look at the DCC forum but must admit that I never followed up on Steve's new forum when he moved.

DB, the Sgt Peppers was not a pic disc - just sort of red vinyl. I've heard that acetates do go for big bucks but wasn't quite sure about the magnitude. So I was there out of curiosity more than anything. Anyway, this one, which was side 4 of White album, went for US$2500 and the auctioneer did look a bit disappointed.

I chucked in a couple of bids for the boxed set at the $40 level but it kept going so I stopped. went for about $80 in the end which is not a huge amount but guess I didn't want it that much.
:( auctions are fun though.;)

Jack

Yeah, I'm kinda curious about any website that gives the value of Beatles' albums.

I have a number of import pressings (Japanese, German, Mobile Fidelity--I went a little crazy for audiophile recordings years ago when I got a decent sound system) and I've always wondered if it would be worth my time to put them up on eBay.

Jimmy, check Craigslist http://www.craigslist.org/
FYI, on Craigslist for SF bay area (where I reside) has several Lennon albums posted in the Collectibles section. The Lennon/Ono Double Fantasy Album was posted (mint condition) for $100. I have that album as well and still like the day it was new....never really cared much for ole Yoko myself, but dang glad I hung to that ole album...LOL

I'm not trying to be an A-hole, but this probably would be better suited to the music forum, I'm watching my TT question getting buried. And just for the hell of it, I think the Beatles are over-rated.

hmmmmm, I am new to this Forum, only 2 days or so....but, isn't this actually a "Beatles Stuff" subset thread placed under Turntables...or am I missing something between the right and left turns??? ::::just friendly wondering here::::

To be polite, yes, it's a subset, (or thread) within the "Turntables and Tapes" forum. There is an entire category for music, which is titled "Music", and sub-categories within them devoted to nothing but the music that people like, are currently listening to, etc. This place is growing by leaps and bounds every day, and my point was that a question for help on a turntable may get buried quickly before somebody that might be able to offer assistance on the particular question may only scan the first page upon logging in. I'm pretty much in that category. It's good to see that you are participating, but it IMO it placed in the wrong spot to begin with. No harm, No foul, and welcome to the forum.

I have an issue with a listing on that Audiophile website. I was in the music business for more than 10 years and received lotsa, lotsa 'demonstration or promotion' albums and NOT one was ever sealed. Not a one. The Jefferson Airplane's After Bathing at Baxters is such a record and yet it said it's sealed. I say there's something wrong :(

Yeah, "sealed"...by them! :lmao:

. . .And just for the hell of it, I think the Beatles are over-rated.

That sentiment has also been expressed by Yoko. :D She thought they were sexists who didn't pay enough attention to her Art.
