A sax playing buddy of mine has always brought his wife along on his pawn shop runs, and she apparently learned to identify quality saxes and good buys well. The other night he came home from his gig, and she surprised him at the door with a Selmer Balanced Action Alto Sax that she found in a Goodwill earlier that day.....for $50!

OH MY GOD!!! That is truly a FIND OF A LIFETIME. These horns are quite rare, expensive, and highly sought after. I would give my left knut for a find like that!!! Is his in original finish? What area of the country was this found in? I'd say that he owes his wife something really special!
Here is one that was refinished (hurts value):

My vintage sax repair expert/dealer typically sells these for $3,500 to $4,500 (more for minty original ones) when they come up... which isn't very often. BTW, for horns like these (expensive old Selmers), ebay prices are lower than what dealers typically get.

I once found a gold plated Buescher alto circa 1930 in a GW for $30! Played great. I thought that was a find. Not exactly a Selmer BA. I've always dreamed of finding a 60's Mark VI from someone's attic at a tag sale. Has not happened yet!
