I recently acquired a lot of junks :smoke: This may be one of them :dunno:

There are something that I am not sure correct about this tuner. It is a great tuner no doubt about it if it works right or I know how. If I use the fixed output the AM works fine but I got a short BEEP very second on FM. Why? For FM multipath it works fine.

Another question is what type the stereo and wide/narrow lamps is?
It is a tiny tinny thingy.

First - the beep you're hearing is the record level tone. Find the switch for it on the fromt and move it up to turn the test tone off. The best available replacement lamps for the wide/narrow and stereo are 6.3v 35ma type with wire leads. The lamps are the "mini" type which are .2" or 5mm in diameter. The power switch however used originally a 8v 50ma lamp. The closest you can come nowdays is a 8v 35ma lamp which works fine. It is a bit harder to replace than the other though.

Thanks Ron. I found the lamps and now everything is great. This tuner is VERY sensitive. :thmbsp:

I love Pioneer tuners. I have a TX-950II, it's very sensitive and selective. Best sounding tuner I've ever heard. Very open and airy on FM.

I've played with several of them now..... I think a lot better of them now than I did when the first came out, I'm still a little Sansui in my blood me thinks. All the x500II series of tuners will benefit noticably from replacing the tantalum caps in the audio circuits. The sound is noticably less "transistor" in nature. Some exibit this more than others, ie my 8500II actually sounds better than my 9500II does (both stock so far).

I'm sure my 9500II could benefit by replacing some of the old guts. I just don't know who to trust to do it up right? any ideas? i'm not able to do things like that myself. So i'd have to find someone who would know what to replace.
I have a good repair shop that handles Pioneers.. so i may have to check with them.

Just two cents worth...... I have no iron to burn for recomendations, just a simple DIY'r Check out the recommendations on the TIC site www.fmtuners.com and see if there's someone in your part of the country. Doesn't hurt to talk with them.
