I'm going to need about 15 feet of power cable to get to my projector from a Monster Power hts 2000 conditioner. I hate to think of cleaning all that power up then having it get screwed up on the way to the projector, where it will certainly cross several power conductors. 15 feet of power cable from a place that makes them for audio would cost hundreds of dollars (or more). Could I use a heavy gauge extension cord? :scratch2:

There are 2 main characteristics you should be concerned about... guage of cable, and shielding.

Most regular extension cords have no shielding at all... you may have to make your own using a quality cable (like Belden 82803?). I would suggest you want al least 14GA wire (12GA would be even better, but maybe a bit of overkill since your house is likely wired using 14GA).

Of course you likely want to use the better quality connectors you can find at your electrical suppy.... don't fall for the cheapest ones you can find at the hardware store.

Personally I don't think you have to spend a lot or worry too much about power cable, unless you have concerns about specific interference sources and want to ensure you have good shielded power cable. You could try an ordinary heavy duty extension cord just to see how it works to see if interference is a problem.

That is a good suggestion. I briefly looked at Parts Express items. Building a cable is also appealing because I can run the cable then attach the ends.

Go to Home Depot and buy yourself a 14 guage 25 foot grounded extension cord - about $10.00, and buy your self a 3 prong AC connector. Cut the cable to desired length, add the 3 prong AC plug and you're set. That 25 foot cablle is MUCH better than the cable that came with the projector and you will have absolutely ZERO problems with it. I'm a big nut when it comes to cleaning the AC line too, but we need to keep things in perspective. The effects of AC cable interference is pretty small to begin with. Unless you have such a high-end system where every other concievable factor has been considered and addressed, this power cord issue is practically non-existant.

Keep it real, just use a heavy duty 3 prong extension cord.

I agree with JimmyNeutron.I use a green outdoor heavy guage extension cord for my pj (PLV-Z2). Not glamorous, but doesn't affect the PQ at all. Or you could get orange if you have burnt orange carpet, lol.
