Just as it says... I have bought my first tube amplifier and need a good quality set of speakers. Here is a thread I started that describes what I have been looking at and my budget...

http://audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=40179

At this point, I will be saving a little more cash over the next few weeks so that I can afford 5-700 for my speakers.

My inspiration for all this is a friend who invited me over to his house about a month ago... I sat down and he played some music from a tube system he has put together over the years... I can still remember hearing true hi-fi and how the hair on the back of my neck stood up. All the instruments were real and it seemed as if there was a orchestra in his living room, not 2 small speakers. I have no idea what exactly he has but I know his speakers are bookshelf size and are made by Linn? He says the sound of his system is known as a british sound... if that helps?

I myself listen to a lot of classic rock (pink floyd, the who, and the beatles) all the way up to early 90s grundge/alternative rock/and lately easier stuff like Jack Johnson. I love acoustics!!!

As of right now, the Nohr 5.1s seem very nice and im leaning towards those at the moment.

I bet those Almarro speakers that BrianB just sold would have been a good match.

Hi Vedder232,

Given your nOrh amp, the nOrh speakers would make for a very synergistic match. (I used to sell nOrh speakers here in the States, and was very fond of them.)

However, if you can spring for a pair of just-under-$1K floorstanders that are efficient enough for your amp, I would HIGHLY recommend either the Audio Note AZ-Two (a floorstanding version of the AX-Two featuring a rear-loaded horn) or the Almarro M33X. Both sound superb (and WAY better than Axiom or Paradigm models that you've been considering), and would offer a fuller soundstage than the nOrh speakers along with greater bass extension.

If you can, please give me a ring at 812-320-4004, and I'd be happy to discuss various speaker options with you...

Cheers,
Brian
